Who doesn’t loveMonopoly, the classic board game that has been causing family disputes for years? Apparently Hasbro thinks that people don’t love it enough, as it just releasedMonopoly: Longest Game Everjust in time for the holiday shopping season.
Hasbro is no stranger to changing up theMonopolyformula, with thesomewhat controversialMs. Monopolyreleasing last month. However,Monopoly: Longest Game Everis focused on one and only one thing: Making this the longest game ofMonopolyever. Whether or not it’s still fun remains to be seen.

to makeMonopoly: Longest Game Everso long, some significant rule changes needed to take place. First, the game doesn’t end until one player owns every single property on the map. That’d be quite the feat even on a normalMonopolyboard, but of course,Longest Game Boardhas an extra long board to get across. There are sixty-six properties to collect, and three versions of the property to boot, to make the process as slow and long as possible.Longest Game Everdoesn’t even have some of theiconic Monopoly pieces, instead being replaced with tortoises and hares.
In addition,Longest Game Everonly provides a single die, so players won’t even be able to move more than six spaces at a time. Not even bankruptcy is an escape from from this game, as bills can be ripped in half and used to continue on. Hasbro takes (possibly sarcastic) pride in its creation, with the Amazon listing stating that “Think the original Monopoly game takes forever to play? It’s got nothing over this edition of the Monopoly game!”
Monopolyis not exactly the easiest board game to play nowadays. It’s long and drawn out, and most games end not in victory, but taper off due to boredom. Hasbro seems to understand this, andThe Longest Gameis meant to be a novelty above all else. It also feels like the polar opposite ofMonopoly for Millenials, where players can’t even buy property.
If nothing else, someone complaining aboutMonopolybeing too long can easily be filed by this even more painfully long version of the game. Or maybe instead of buying this version ofMonopoly, people can spend their money on some nice Black Friday deals instead, like theseBlack Friday Best Buy DualShock 4 controllers. Either or, really.
