Summary

Some fans called Mr. Beast a scab for crossing the picket line and promotingTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhemduring the actors’ strike.

After being unable to reach an agreement with the studios on a new contract, the Screen Actors Guild decided to go on strike on July 14th. Since then, almost all film and TV productions have shut down because the actors cannot perform services for the studios during the strike. As a part of the strike, actors are not allowed to promote any past, current, or future projects for a studio. That includes the upcomingTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesmovie. Because the actors are not allowed to promote the films, studios are looking to influencers to help promote them.

Mr. Beast plays a small role inTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which some fans may miss. He posted on his Instagram story a poster for the film, saying, “I’m in a movie, check it out lol.” Being an actor in the film, he would not be able to promote the film. This being his first film, he becomes eligible for a SAG-AFTRA membership and would be able to work on union productions for 30 days before needing to join. If he is not a union member, he is allowed to promote the film. However, doing so would be considered scabbing, making him ineligible for future membership.

Mr. Beast explained that he promoted theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesfilm as a part of an influencer contract signed before the strike. The SAG-AFTRA strike website reads, “If an influencer is already under contract to promote struck work, then the influencer should fulfill their work obligation.” Had the contract been signed during the strike, it would be considered scabbing. Additionally, Mr. Beast said he would donate to the strike fund later tonight to show his support.

Mr. Beast isn’t the only one to get backlash about the strike. Recently,Arrowstar Stephen Amell spoke outagainst the strike at a fan event before clarifying his thoughts on the labor dispute in an Instagram post.

If it is true that theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlespromotion was part of an Influencer contract signed before the actors’ strike began on July 14th, that means Mr. Beast was not scabbing and was within the strike’s rules and regulations. However much Mr. Beast decides to donate will be extremely helpful to the actors who need the money during the strike and will help them continue to fight until they can reach an agreement with the studios.
