The uncertainty of the PC tech and gaming hardware world may seem like it’s gone on for an age at this point. With people around the world still struggling to get hold of new gear thanks to global shortages, the likes ofNvidia are potentially looking to release older products such as the GTX 1080 Ti, which is a GPU that’s four years old at this point. Now it seems as thoughMSImay be about to do the same thing, only with a much older piece of kit.
In a recent report, it looks as though graphics card manufacturer MSI is seeking desperate measures to keep the market going while the deficit continues to affect the industry by possibly re-launching its GeForce GT 730. To put that into some perspective, that’s a GPU that’s seven years old by now. This is despiteMSI releasing the new 3080 Ti which the company announced at the beginning of May.

The GT 730 may help to temporarily keep things ticking over, but it’s arguably not a card that is going to suit any gamers who are looking for modern hardware. This graphics card is, as many would imagine, a much more low-end piece of tech with just 2GB of DDR3 memory. When compared to something likethe GTX 3080 which has 10GB of GDDR6X RAM, it’s not going to match what’s currently out on the market. However, given that what’s currently out is not readily available, there’s an argument to be had that shoppers may still want to purchase some older hardware in the meantime.
While the 730 has a much lower spec than some may want, the report states that this is still arguably a better option than using an integrated graphics card. With theNvidia 3080 Ti selling out almost immediately upon release, there’s every chance that MSI bringing back its old GPU model is still a valuable move at a time when nobody really knows when new graphics cards, and new-gen consoles for that matter, will be in regular supply again.
With the possibility thatshortages of GPUs could go on until 2023, whatMSIand Nvidia are seemingly wishing to do is plug a hole in the market for those gamers and PC enthusiasts who are perhaps getting tired of waiting. The GT 730 may not be a top-end graphics card, but it does come at a much lower price and uses a lower wattage of power, so it’s perhaps worth customers looking into whether it’s a viable to purchase a seven-year-old graphics card until things start to pick up.
