ThePlayStation 5is unsurprisingly one of the most anticipated consoles set to arrive in the gaming market. The console is going to be the next iteration of theincredibly successful PlayStation franchiseand naturally, expectations are high. One issue that has been raised in the build-up to the release of the console is its appearance. A leaked image of an alternative color for the next-generation console has now surfaced and it may ease some of these concerns.
While many players have been impressed with thespecifications of the PlayStation 5, others have been concerned with how the PS5 console looks. Alongside the DualSense controller, the PlayStation 5 is set to a significant departure from past consoles, aesthetically speaking. It now seems that if players are unhappy with the black and white console (which has been frequently compared to an internet modem), there may be an alternative.

An image of the PlayStation 5 that appears to be on the back of a leaflet advertising Sony products showcases a black and redPlayStation 5console. The original post on ResetEra claimed that this was a legitimate photograph of marketing material sent out by Sony, but the image does raise questions. Firstly, some are wondering whether the image was used as a placeholder rather than an image of a final design that will be widely available. On top of this query, many are questioning the legitimacy of the source. At the moment there does not appear to be additional evidence to support the image and equally, there is nothing concrete that makes it false.
The recently revealedcase design for PS5 gamessuggests that the black and white console will be the color code for the console but that does not mean there will not be different iterations. PlayStation Vice President of UX Design, Matt MacLauri, has already stated that there will be alternative designs and with that in mind players may be able to get a black and red PlayStation 5. With that said, it would be unusual for a console to release alternate colors at the time of launch and players may have to wait a while before they see this iteration.
It will be interesting to see if this version of the PlayStation 5 comes to light or whether there will be different versions released in the future. Yet players can be confident that there will be color variations, asSony frequently releases special edition consoles with games. This track record alongside the comments of MacLauri makes it very likely that special editions and variations of the PS5 will be released - it’s just not clear whether there will be a black and red console.
ThePlayStation 5will launch later this year.
