Of all the inventive JRPGs to release within the last several years,Nier: Automatais one that has turned quite a few heads within the gaming community. Serving as a direct sequel to the originalNierand subsequently revitalized the series as a whole,Nier: Automatahas managed to stand out amongst numerous successful titles. Though, for how popularNier: Automatahas become, it’s also incredibly experimental in terms of its design. As is the case withmost games directed by Yoko Taro,Nier: Automatapossesses numerous eccentricities that are extremely unique. To the point where most players would be hard-pressed to find the same degree of creativity from a lot of other games. However, now it seems Yoko Taro has been hiding a secret inNier: Automatafor the last several years that was only discovered recently.RELATED:Nier Automata Anime Is Officially Confirmed With First TeaserOver on Twitter, a user named Lance McDonald posted gameplay footage taken by a Reddit user named sadfutago that shows A2 entering a secret room within the Copied City. The room is quite small and contains a single iron ore that the player picked up in the video. At the far edge of the secret room is a ladder the user goes down, which leads into a long hallway with spires coming out of it. Just as the player starts to run down the hallway, the video ends.

Further research shows that sadfutago made theirRedditaccount only a couple of months ago and has only ever posted about locating what they describe as the “church hallway” inNier: Automata. This secret door evidently leads to some kind of church location in-game that as far as nearly everyone in theNier: Automatacommunity can tell, no one has ever discovered until now.

The video was posted onto Reddit less than a day ago and since then, a plethora of theories have surfaced as a result. Many fans believe that this room is some sort of mod, but according to the user, this footage was recorded on a PS4. Whilemods forNier: Automataare available on the PC port, the PS4 version of the game doesn’t allow players to download mods.

Right now, it’s too early to tell whether access to this room has been available sinceNier: Automatafirst launched, or the user managed to access it via a specific combination of inputs. It’s entirely possible that players just missed this room, given the door to the room is placed in a rather innocuous location. In any case, it will be interesting to see what the community makes of this discovery and if other installments likeNier Replicantcontain anything similar that may have gone overlooked.

Nier: Automatais available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will be released for Nintendo Switch on October 6.
