Players can equip their characters with the Santa cosmetics and spread some Christmas spirit inNintendo Switch Sports.Nintendo Switch Sportsis a sports mini-game compilation similar to its predecessorWii Sports. Players can compete against the AI or other players in a variety of sports, including soccer, volleyball, tennis, and bowling. In an homage toWii Sports,Nintendo Switch Sportsplayers can use Miisas their characters, but the game also introduced more detailed avatars called Sportsmates. Sportsmates have more detailed hair and face customization options, as well as having arms and legs, which the Mii avatars lacked. They can do this by playing online matches in random matchmaking, which will give them points that they can spend on items in the Santa Collection. Once playersunlock all of theNintendo Switch Sportscosmeticsin the Santa Collection they will automatically unlock the Santa outfit and can play sports in their full Christmas regalia. For anyone who has been falling behind or just found out about the outfit, it will be available to claim until July 07, 2025.
These cosmetics are a nice touch forNintendo Switch Sportsto add, as players will no doubt want to indulge in some holiday cheer with their characters for the season. It’s also good to see rewards that are earnable through playing the game and not just as something that can only be bought with real-world currency. Nintendo did make the process fairly accessible as well, since players will still receive points no matter how well they perform in the matches. Andalthough ranked online play is available inNintendo Switch Sports, players don’t need to play ranked to earn cosmetic points.
Of course, not everyone is going to be interested in grinding out the points needed to unlock everything in the Santa Collection. With that in mind, and in the spirit of Christmas, it might have been better to give the Santa outfit or other holiday-themed cosmetics to people for free. However,Nintendo Switch Sportscontinues to receive updates, so there are plenty of sports games for players to enjoy and earn points in, and probably more to come.
