No Man’s Skyis often touted as one of the greatest redemption arcs in gaming history. Initially, while Hello Games had promised much with its space-faring survival title, it had failed to deliver on almost all of it, causing a major backlash from the video game community. Fans were infuriated whenNo Man’s Skyfirst dropped back in 2016. However, in the years following, the developers have added consistent free updates, expanding on the game and bringingmultiple versions ofNo Man’s Skyto the Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
The latest console to receive aNo Man’s Skyport is the Nintendo Switch. To have a vast, explorative experience in the handheld design of the Switch is something that Hello Games' Sean Murray says “feels both completely natural and also totally improbable at the same time.” To have a game as big asNo Man’s Skywork on a console less powerful than a PS4 is no mean feat, especially with all the previous updates for the game coming to the new version as well.

However, something that will notably be missing fromNo Man’s Skyon the Switchis multiplayer. Introduced back in 2018, multiplayer was something that had at first been promised to be part of theNo Man’s Skyexperience, but was absent in the aforementioned poorly received launch. This means thatNo Man’s Skyon Switch will be a single-player experience, but for any concerned that this situation is an echo of the game’s original launch, all major updates to the survival title will be added in the port when it drops in October.
There is also the possibility that multiplayer could come to the Switch port ofNo Man’s Skylater down the road, as Hello Games has stated that it will continue to provide updates and expand on the game following release. There’s no official word on when or if multiplayer will arrive, but even if it doesn’t feature in the Switch port ofNo Man’s Sky, there are still plenty of things for players to do. From making alien allies to combating pirate invasions in the recentOutlaws update forNo Man’s Sky, it is unlikely a player faring the galaxy alone will be bored immediately.
Alongside the release of the Nintendo Switch port ofNo Man’s Sky, a physical PS5 release of the game will drop on the same date. This will be the first time since 2019 that a player will be able to buy a copy ofNo Man’s Skyat a physical retailer. Also, whenSony’s PS VR2 releases,No Man’s Skywill be available on that platform as well, showing that even six years after release the game is still in demand.
No Man’s Skyreleases on Jun 30, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
