Beat Saber is Ending Support for Meta Quest 1 Headsets

For those still using the original Meta Quest 1/Oculus headset, this will no doubt be sad news. On the bright side, those that purchasedBeat Saberon the Meta Quest 1 can play it on theMeta Quest 2 and 3 headsetswithout having to buy it or its DLC all over again. Of course, this will require buying a brand-new VR headset, which is an expensive proposition, but newer games have been skipping the Quest 1 for years now anyway.

Some of the best modern VR games are not playable on the Meta Quest 1 headset. The most notable example is probablyAsgard’s Wrath 2, which is one of the highest-rated virtual reality games of all time.Asgard’s Wrath 2is playable on Quest 2 and Quest 3, but skipped Quest 1. And soon, a game will be released that’s only playable on Quest 3 and will be skipping Quest 2 entirely.

Batman: Arkham Shadowis a Quest 3 exclusive, so the Quest 2 is already getting to the point where it’s being phased out. The constant new hardware releases have proven overwhelming for some VR enthusiasts, but games should improve as the technology advances, and leaving older hardware behind can help developers improve their experiences without being held back.
