It’s safe to say that this current generation of graphics card technology is coming to a close. With bothNvidiaandAMD due to launch new hardware this year, the next few months are going to be interesting, as speculations become more inbound. Given how soon team green’s next RTX offerings could be hitting the shelves, many are keeping their ear to the ground to see what information, if any, can be gleamed, including details about possible spec.
As reported by PC Gamer, a recent tweet from known industry leaker kopite7kimi has given a summary about what they think theNvidiaRTX 4090 will feature. Using the Ada Lovelace architecture, it’s looking like this next generation flagship GPU could have 24 GB of GDDR6X VRAM, on a 21 Gbps memory clock, as previously believed. It could also have 16,128 CUDA cores. At a cursory glance, it seems almost on par with the recently released RTX 3090 Ti, only with more cores. However, one of the other interesting pieces of information is that the 4090 could have a TDP of 450W.

At the start of the month, kopite7kimi speculated that theNvidia RTX 4090 could require 600W of power, which would make it quite a stifling graphics card. Since then, they’ve changed that to say that it might be more in-line with the 3090 Ti, featuring a TDP of 450W instead. That’s still pretty warm, but a good margin away from what was originally being rumored.
Of course, it should be stated that these details have yet to be announced by Jensen Huang and co, so the details cannot be verified just yet. Having said that, asNvidia is looking to launch the RTX 40-series this July, it’s likely that the products are being built, with specifications close to being finalized. This means that any leaks could be more accurate as this much sooner launch window looms ahead. Here’s hoping that team green will make an announcement soon.
WithAMD preparing its RDNA 3 for a 2022 release, the race is on to be the first out the gate for the next generation. Intel is still at the starting point, having yet to unleash its Arc desktop cards, soNvidiaand AMD are likely not worried about team blue. Whatever the RTX 4090 ends up being, it will almost certainly represent the top end of the upcoming Ada range. Given that it’s possible that it will be 150W cooler than originally believed, this will come as a bit of a relief for those who are waiting for the GPU to drop, which could be sooner than expected.
