Upon its announcement,One Piecefans were incredibly surprised to see thatOne Piece Odysseyis finally attempting to translate Eiichiro Oda’s beloved long-running manga series into a huge JRPG. The game is being developed by none other than ILCA,the developer behindPokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearlthat has also assisted development on games likeYakuza 0andNieR: Automata.
WhileOne Piece Odysseyhas looked more and more sprawling every time it has been showcased, recently it was revealed that iconic locations such as Alabasta and Water 7 will appear as fully explorable worlds, packed with NPCs and side quests, drawing comparisons to beloved JRPG towns of the past like the ones seen inDragon Quest. Given the length of the manga and just how much of the world the Straw Hats have explored, here are some other memorableOne Piecelocations that should be recreated in One Piece Odyssey.

Whole Cake Island
One of the more recent locations inOne Piece(despite ending its run in the manga over four years ago), Whole Cake Island is one of the most unique locations in the entire series.Whole Cake Island is home to Big Mom and her family, including Charlotte Pudding and Katakuri. The island itself is most identifiable for being made entirely out of candy, making it one of the most colorful and detailed islands the Straw Hat Pirates have ever visited, and one that would be exciting to see fleshed out as a full JRPG location.
Whole Cake Island itself is just the central island to the entire Totto Land archipelago, which iswhere theWhole Cake Islandarc inOne Pieceis set. Given that the Straw Hats were separated in this arc, with Luffy, Nami, Chopper, and Brook splitting off to create the “Sanji Retrieval Team”, alongside Carrot and Pedro (and later Jimbe), it would be exciting to see how absent characters like Robin, Zoro, Usopp, and Franky react to seeing the island for the first time.

Fish-Man Island
Fish-Man Island is the first area the Straw Hat Pirates visitafter reuniting on Sabaody Archipelago two years after vowing to become stronger before finishing their journey. It is the last island before the New World, and is especially noteworthy as requiring the Straw Hats to sink 10,000 meters beneath the sea to access it. What lies beneath is a gorgeous underwater town with a dark backbone, making it one of the most visually arresting locations in the entireOne Piecemanga.
Fish-Man Island is full of personality in its shopping district, its Fish-Man Karate dojo, and its different inhabitants such as the mermaids and the Fish-Men themselves. Recreating this location also givesOne Piece Odysseythe opportunity to bring back fan favorite characters such as Shirahoshi and Jimbe, who despite being a Straw Hat at this point in the manga is not featured in the game as one of the crew.

Skypiea
One of the biggest locations the Straw Hats visit early in the story, Skypiea just seems obvious forOne Piece Odysseyto recreate. Visited by the Straw Hats after riding the Knock Up Stream after Jaya, they quickly learn ofan egotistic ruler known as Eneruwho is playing god with the natives of the island. Luffy and the gang quickly vow to put a stop to him and free the citizens from his rule, eventually going on to end a 400-year war.
WhileOne Pieceis immediately ambitious in its world building and narrative structuring,Skypiea is one of the first times fans are given an idea of just how big the world actually is, given that islands of its size can exist entirely above the clouds. One Piece Odysseyhas already teased the inclusion of sky islands through artwork and trailers, however recent reveals make Skypiea feel almost given to be included in the game considering its storyline comes between Alabasta and Water 7, two locations previously confirmed to appear. Hopefully players will be able to zip across the cloud sea in a waver just as Nami did upon the crew’s entry to the island.
One Piece Odysseywill release on June 01, 2025 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
