UPDATE: Overwatch 2 is nowthelowest-rated Steam game of all time.
Original story follows.
Overwatch 2is now in the top 10 lowest-rated Steam games of all time just one day after its release on the platform. Blizzard has almost exclusively released its games through itsBattle.net platformover the years, so it came as quite a shock when it announced that it was bringingOverwatch 2to Steam with more of its games to follow.
Blizzard bringingOverwatch 2to Steamcoincides with the hero shooter exiting early access and transitioning to a full game. It did so with the introduction of three PvE story missions, the new Flashpoint game mode, and the introduction of Support hero Illari. There’s even more forOverwatch 2fans to look forward to in Season 6, but it seems the majority of Steam users are already fed up with the game.

Less than 24 hours afterOverwatch 2was added to Steam, and it’s already the eighth lowest-rated game on the platform, according to data from Steam 250. A visit to theOverwatch 2Steam page shows that the game has Overwhelmingly Negative reviews with over 39,000 reviews counted so far. Browsing through the negative reviews shows that many players are upset aboutOverwatch 2’s free-to-play business model, the decision to block PvE missions behind a paywall, the cancelation of the game’s more ambitious PvE features, and the departure of former game director Jeff Kaplan. Many recommend playingTeam Fortress 2instead. The few positive reviews mostly just talk about how they’re just happy they can play the game through Steam now instead of the Battle.net launcher.
Top 10 Worst Steam Games
Games have managed to claw themselves out of big holes like this over the years, but it’s going to take a seismic shift forOverwatch 2to even get to “Mixed” review status on Steam. Blizzard would have to completely upend the game to address the complaints in the reviews, and it’s unlikely to do so. One has to wonder if the Overwhelmingly Negative review scores will keep Steam users from trying the game in the first place, and if this will in turn cause Blizzard to have second thoughts about bringing its games to the platform.
For now, those that do enjoyOverwatch 2at least have a lot of fresh content to sink their teeth into between the PvE story missions,Flashpoint, and Illari. More is on the way this season, but time will tell if any of it is enough to change the minds of Steam users.
Overwatch 2is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
