While the heroes insideOverwatch 2already have multiple chaotic and colorful abilities available at players' fingertips, a player has a suggestion for a new Torbjorn ability to play on his friendship with a robotic member of the game’s roster. Narratively, it isn’t anything new as Blizzard has shown the complex web of relationships dotting the game’s roster, whether it is the comedy-driven chaos of Roadhog and Junkrat or the endless hostilities between Reaper andSoldier: 76. None of the heroes appear to have abilities playing on these relationships, though, but this player suggestion for Torbjorn can change that.
Overwatch 2’s multiplayer went live in early October 2022, bringing with it a swath of changes to freshen up the game including reducing team size from six to five and a swath of character changes. An example of the latter was seen in the overhaul to Doomfist, who was changed from a DPS hero to a tank hero as the studio believed the role better reflected his abilities. On top of the character changes, the sequel also brought with it three new characters in the forms of Kiriko, Sojourn, and Junker Queen for players to experiment with.

One character who did not undergo as many changes as some other heroes when the sequel launched wasTorbjorn, who’s only notable change was to his weapon’s fire rate to keep up withOverwatch 2’s faster gameplay. Reddit user Dual-ity, though, offers an idea which could not only further freshen up the support hero, but also push the idea of synergy with Bastion players. Their idea would see Torbjorn be able to heal Bastion using the former’s hammer, playing on Torbjorn’s history as an engineer and friendship with Bastion.
Narratively, Torbjorn and Bastion have been friends since the engineer discovered the sentient robot wondering through the forests of Europe with his faithful bird companion. The pair would spend the next few years together, with Torbjorn repairing and upgradingBastionovertime while the engineer learned to soften his hostile outlook on Omnics. Dual-ity’s idea would be an ideal way to reflect this friendship and the work Torbjorn has done on Bastion in-game aside from Easter eggs showing what the pair have been up in recent years.
On a larger scale, Dual-ity’s idea could provide another unique spin onOverwatch 2’s gameplay by encouraging players to build teams around pairings alongside overall composition. Plenty of other characters have relationships Blizzard could pull from, such as the mentor/mentee relationship betweenReinhardtand Brigitte, to craft unique abilities that only work in tandem with select pairings. Only time will tell if Blizzard decides to act on Dual-ity’s idea and introduce this concept intoOverwatch 2.
Overwatch 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
