Summary

Overwatch 2released a special April Fools' Day update, giving players access to a wacky game mode in the Arcade as well as adding Googly eyes to the characters, though it appears this update also impacted NPC characters as well. For many fans, April Fools' Day can be a double edged sword, as many companies come up with some elaborate pranks that many only wish were true. For example, CD Projekt RED revealed afake special Limited Floppy Edition ofCyberpunk 2077, putting the game on 97,619 3.5in diskettes.

However, on occasion, some of these announcements do turn out to be true, with many live service games likeCall of Duty: Warzone,Pokemon GO, and plenty of others using it as a way to introduce some outlandish style content. Blizzard has a long history with April Fools' Day and this year was no exception forOverwatch 2, introducing a new game in the Arcade mode under “Balanced Overwatch”. The game mode brought wild changes to many of the characters, including a tiny Mauga, as well as bringing back the popular googly eyes look as well. However, much to the surprise of many players, the April Fools' Day update also seems to have impacted the PvE side of the game as well.

While playing through the Invasions PvE missions, a player named StarZax noticed that theApril Fools' Update forOverwatch 2also had an impact on the NPC characters found moving throughout the stages. Overwatch 2 Community Reacts to Googly-Eyed Civilians

Naturally, the discovery prompted plenty of snarky and hilarious comments from other users checking out the thread. With rumors circulating that thePvE side ofOverwatch 2has been effectively canceleddue to some of the layoffs that recently impacted the industry, many took the opportunity to remark that the added NPC googly eyes was the last time Blizzard would ever touch Invasions and that it was the team’s way of going out with a bang. Others took the conversation in a different direction and mentioned that some payloads even had eyes attached to them, while another was surprised to see that some Omnic characters seemingly had human hands instead of expected robotic ones.

While the PvE side ofOverwatch 2seems to be very much in doubt, the PvP side of the game is alive and well with Season 10 rapidly approaching. The big addition for many is the arrival ofOverwatch 2’s latest hero named Venture, who wields a massive drill that can burrow underground and lead to plenty of ambush opportunities. However, Season 10 also introduces other massive changes, such as all past and future heroes being removed from the battle pass, changes to the competitive system, a new game mode called Clash, and teases of the return of the popular Temple of Anubis map. With Season 10 set to arrive on April 16, players won’t have to wait too much longer to see all the new changes for themselves.
