The PlayStation team surprised many of its fans today by announcing that it has launched its own official TikTok account. It has been a weird week for video game promotions asNintendo also released an ASMR videoto try to get people to buy the Nintendo Switch.
In between promoting games likeMonster Hunter World,God of War, and theResident Evil 2remake, the officialPlayStationTwitter account made the big announcement. It told followers that that it made a TikTok account, also apologizing to fans for doing so. The tweet quickly got a huge number of responses from fans mocking PlayStation for the decision. One user said that “Xbox won again,” another joked that they would be blocking the PlayStation Twitter account, and one said that they would be switching consoles.

TikTok has millions of users and many of them are video game fans. ThePokemon Masters Hit or Miss memehappened because of a popular song on TikTok and some gamers have been sharing gaming tips andCall of Duty: Modern Warfareloadouts on the app. There have also been TikTok videos urging people to get involved in politics, videos that criticize social issues, and videos that look like they were created by groups of professional comedians. However, the app does have a reputation as being popular with teenagers which is probably why some PlayStation fans were against the idea.
Only three videos have been posted on the PlayStation TikTok but fans may get a good laugh out of them. In one video, a member of the PlayStation team takes a break with a BB figurine and in another, a figure of a creature fromInsidejiggles toBootyliciousby Destiny’s Child. There’s also a video of the team announcing the TikTok but the PlayStation team members seem much more excited than the fans on Twitter do.
The PlayStation TikTok seems to be off to a good start. The PlayStation team has a verified badge on TikTok, it has 153.3k followers, and its first TikTok video has 205.4k views. The brandHyperX, which makes headsetsand keyboards, has also offered to make a “duet” with PlayStation. PlayStation probably isn’t going to stop holding press conferences and releasing trailers to announce its games, however, those who want another look at how games are made may be able to get that from the PlayStation TikTok.
