The announcement of the next major installment of thePokemonseries in February has stirred up a staggering amount of excitement among the community.
Mega Evolution has always been the fan-favorite “battle gimmick” of thePokemonworld, allowing players to temporarily evolve certain Pokemon beyond their last natural evolutionary stage. The advantage that Mega Evolution grants to a Pokemon’s stats and battle capability is almost totally unmatched by any other gimmick in the series, to the extent that fans still consider it to be grossly overpowered in some cases. Mega Evolution isn’t all about stats, though - the process also allows Pokemon to take on awesome new appearances for a short time, inspiring many artists todesign their own mega forms for different Pokemonover the years.
Even long after the community lost any real hope ofMega Evolution returning to thePokemonseries officially, countless custom Mega Pokemon have been shared by fans. The artist known online as JJonnie recently showed off three new designs of their own, including a Mega Tropius, Mega Flygon, and even a third unofficial mega form for Charizard, which they’ve named Mega Charizard Z. While the Flygon and Tropius designs see little alterations to their types, the Mega Charizard Z concept makes some particularly bold changes to the Gen 1 critter, transforming it into a Fire and Ice-type Pokemon with a stunning new design.
What These Fanmade Mega Pokemon Look Like
Each of these fantastic concepts are consistent withmany official Mega Pokemon designsin that they don’t go too overboard with enhancing the Pokemon’s original appearances. While Tropius isn’t the most popular Pokemon around, many fans remain hopeful that the Pokemon will see some love in an official capacity, someday. Flygon has always been one of the prime candidates to get a mega evolution in the eyes of many fans, though it remains to be seen whether this will ever happen.
Not a lot isknown aboutPokemon Legends: Z-Ajust yet, though the game’s reveal trailer did give fans a basic understanding of what to expect. This additional installment of thePokemon: Legendsside-series will be taking players back to the Kalos region during a period of monumental renovation for its capital city, Lumiose City. While the trailer did also confirm the return of megas, fans have no idea what to expect in terms of how many new Mega Pokemon might be introduced.
