Terastallization is a new mechanic added in Gen 9’sScarlet & Violetthat changes the Pokemon’s appearance and can potentially change their Typing. A Terastallized Pokemon won’t gain an increase in its stats, but if a Pokemon uses a move that matches its Tera-typing, the power of the attack will be increased. Every Pokemon is assigned a Tera-typing, but unlike their regular Typing, their Tera-type can be changed at a restaurant in Medali.

Players will need 50 Tera Shards to change their Pokemon’s Tera-typing. The best way to farm these are through completing Tera Raids. Unfortunately, the drop rate for Tera Shards is low, but ifScarlet/Violetplayers manage to get the Glimmering Charm in the Teal Mask DLC, this rate can be increased. To get the Glimmering Charm, players will need to catch all 200 Pokemon in the Kitakami (Teal Mask) Pokedex.

Where is Jacq in Kitakami?

Once players have The Teal Mask, they’ll receive a call from Jacq about a fieldtrip to Kitakami. Got to Naranja/Uva Academy, and meet Ms. Briar. Trainers will then receive the Kitakami Dex from Jacq, and from there, they can go to the new region.

Players will want toadvance The Teal Mask storyto the point where they get the Festival Jinbei (Green) and Teal Style Card. Before going to the Festival of Masks, take the east road fromMossui TownontoReveler’s Road. Jacq will be standing by the first set of treeson the rightjust beyond the bridge. Refer to theobjective marker/flag on the above image for the exact location.

If this is the first time players speak to Jacq in Kitakami, he’ll also give theman Egg that can hatch into one of the Sinnoh Starters(i.e, Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup).

The Glimmering Charm can only be obtained by completing the new Pokedex. The Kitakami Dex has200 Pokemon, but some of these species live in Paldea, too. Thus, it’s possible that players may have some of the pages filled out even if it’s their first time in Kitakami.

Best Way to Complete the Kitakami Pokedex

200 Pokemon isn’t as much as Paldea’s Dex of 400, so if players have already completed the Paldea Dexbefore going to Kitakami, this shouldn’t be too challenging. As mentioned, there are several species of Pokemon that can be caught in Paldea (ex, Rockruff-line, Riolu-line, Starly-line). So it’s entirely possible for trainers to have to catch less than 200 if they’ve already filled out the pages of the first Dex.

The best way for trainers to fill out the Dex is tocatch every Pokemon they seeandexplore every corner of Kitakami. Use Quick Balls and other Poke Balls whose catch rate is influenced by the environment or Pokemon’s level/Typing. Taking part in Tera Raids is also a good way to catch Pokemon that are less common, such as Feebas.

As for the less-common Pokemon in the Kitakami Dex:

Unfortunately, Teal Mask is not above having version-exclusive Pokemon. Aipom, Ambipom, and Morpeko are exclusive toPokemon Violet; Gligar, Gliscor, and Cramorant are exclusive toPokemon Scarlet. This means trainers are going to have totrade for these version-exclusives, or they can insteadcatch them in anotherPokemongameandtransfer them toScarlet/Violetby usingPokemon HOME.

Other Pokemon are locked behind side quests or even the main quest itself. The Bloodmoon Ursaluna is in a sidequest with Perrin, a photographer (and obvious descent of Adaman of the Diamond Clan) who stands near the west road leading out of Mossui Town. On the downside, this side questdoes not scale its levelto match the player’s progress inScarlet/Violet’s main story. Therefore, those attempting to complete the Dex before beating the game will need to have Pokemon that arelevel 65+.

The new Legendary Pokemon - Okidogi, Fezandipiti, Munkidori, and Ogerpon - can be caught at the end of the Teal Mask, with Ogerpon being an automatic capture. While Ogerpon’s level is scaled to 20 or 70 depending on whether trainers have completedScarlet/Violet’s main stories (i,e: Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and Victory Road),the “Loyal Three” are locked atlevel 70.

How Much Does the Glimmering Charm Increase Tera Shards?

The amount of Tera Shards earned from Tera Raids will appear as a “bonus” at thebottom of the rewards page. Thehigher the Raid, themore Tera Shards. The Glimmering Charm only works for3/4/5/6-star Tera Raids. 1/2-star Raids arenotaffected by the Glimmering Charm.

It should be noted that the5/6-star Tera Raidsare locked to the postgame and post-Ace Academy Tournament respectively. Until players complete “The Way Home” and the Ace Academy Tournament, the highest raid they’ll findare4-star Tera Raids.

Is the Glimmering Charm Worth It?

Players may be wondering if the Glimmering Charm is worth it, and the answer is thatit depends.

Those who want tochange the Tera-typing of their Pokemonshould consider the Glimmering Charm as without it, the drop rate of Tera Shards is somewhat low. Remember: the Treasure Eatery in Medali needs50 Tera Shardsper Type to change a Pokemon’s Tera-typing. The Glimmering Charm can make the farming process quicker.

Another thing to think about is a Pokemon’s STAB. A Terastallized Pokemon will deal more damage by using a move that matches its Tera-typing than it would using a move that does not. Pokemon that hatch from an Egg but can change their base Types when they evolve may also want to have their Tera-typing changed.

For example, Eevee will always have a Normal Tera-type when it’s hatched from an Egg. When it’s evolved, that Tera-type doesnotchange to match one of Eevee’s potential evolutions. Thus, it’s possible tohave an Espeon (Psychic-type)with a Normal Tera-typing. While it does negate its weakness to Ghost-type moves, Espeon doesn’t learn any Normal-type moves that can deal as much damage as its Psychic-type moves. Factor in that Espeon is a special attacker, it won’t be taking out Pokemon with a Terastallized Quick Attack like it would a Terastallized Psychic.

The Terastallized Pokemon that are Fixed Spawns in Paldea and Kitakami will also have different Tera-typings. There’s a Terastallized Eelektross with aFighting Tera-typing. For this, it may be better to change the Eelektross’s Tera-typing toElectric. Not only will it get STAB and bonus damage from using Electric-type moves, but its ability,Levitate, negates its weakness to Ground-type. This essentially means Eelektross will have no super-effective weaknesses while Terastallized.

These are all things to consider when changing a Tera Type and whether players should get the Glimmering Charm. Sometimes, having a Tera Typing that’s different from a Pokemon’s regular typing can throw their opponents off guard. Rock-types that can Terastallize into a Ghost-type means that it can’t take damage from Fighting-type moves, which is one of Rock-types' weaknesses. It’s all about how trainers want to organize their team.
