ManyPokemonfans are excited to playPokemon SwordandPokemon Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC expansion, which recently released. With it, many old Pokemon from previous generations have been able to return via transfer and being able to be found in the wild.
One Pokemon line making a return toPokemon SwordandPokemon Shieldis the Dratini line. This means that Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite can now be obtained and raised by players in-game.

While any of these Pokemon can betransferred fromPokemon Home, Dratini can be found in the wild in the new areas provided by the Crown Tundra DLC. From there, Dratini will evolve into Dragonair at level 30. Dragonair will evolve into Dragonite at level 55.
So far it seems that Dratini can only be found in the Crown Tundra and not in theIsle of Armoror the main Galar region. It can be found in any area with water via surfing on top of it and encountering it like normal or by fishing in a body of water.
While it might seem easy to find a Dratini thanks to the number of possible places to find one, it may actually take players a long time to find one. This is due to Dratini only having a 5% encounter chance at any time. Players will be able to see Dratini in the water via its small white head fins poking out of the water while swimming. Its encounter rate does not seem to beaffected by weatheror time of day.
When encountering a Dratini, it will have a level around 65 with a base catch rate of 11.9%. It is a pure dragon-type, giving it a weakness to dragon, ice, and fairy-type moves. After catching a Dratini, it will only take two level ups to fully evolve it. Considering that Dragonite is one of thepseudo-legendary Pokemon, it is very worth it to catch and raise if players are still looking to fill out their teams for the Crown Tundra.
Due to the catching method for Dratini, some players may assume that Dratini is part water-type or will gain a water-typing somewhere down the line. The only secondary typing thatthe Dratini linewill get is the flying-type after Dragonair evolves into Dragonite. This means that players should plan accordingly if they are looking for a water-type Pokemon to add to their team.
