March has proven to be a busy month forPS Plusso far. Obviously, there were the PS Plus free games for March 2022 that were released, but several new details about its upcoming upgrade in June were also revealed.Persona 5is even leaving the PS Plus collection, among other reveals and whatnot over the pat few days. Of course, on top of everything, thePS Plus free games for April 2022 were revealed.
It’s hard to say yet how these will be fully received by fans, but the three games areHood: Outlaws and Legends(PS4/PS5),SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated(PS4), andSlay the Spire(PS4). They will be available from April 5 to May 2, but for those who may be a little unclear about what thesePS Plusgames are, here’s what they need to know.

PS Plus Free Games for April 2022 – Hood: Outlaws & Legends
Hood: Outlaws & Legendsis a multiplayer action game, featuring no real story. The game is highly influenced bythe stories of Robin Hoodand features players competing against one another to secure as much gold as possible. The standard game mode features three primary phases: stealing the key from the Sheriff of Nottingham, stealthing around and making their way to the vault, acquiring a treasure, and eventually reaching an extraction point—again, all through the eyes of a Robin Hood-esque adventure. There’s also a PvE mode called State Heist, which puts players into a more cooperative PvE environment.
PS Plus Free Game for April 2022 – SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for a Bikini Bottom – Rehydratedis a remakeof a nostalgic game for fans of the Nickelodeon show. In it, the player must stop Plankton’s army of robots from taking over Bikini Bottom, which includes facing some large machinations of SpongeBob and his friends. Players will spend most of the time collecting items, fighting robots, and solving puzzles to reach new areas and progress the story along. Players can play as SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy in this quest, where ultimately 75 Golden Spatulas will have to be found to face the final boss.
There are a couple of notable changes, for nostalgic fans, too. There is a multiplayer horde mode inSpongeBob Square Pants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydratedthat players can enjoy, as well ascut content from the originalBattle for Bikini Bottomthat introduced or expanded some boss fights and levels.
PS Plus Free Games for April 2022—Slay the Spire
Slay the Spirecombines elements of roguelike progressionand deckbuilding card games to tell a story of a player ascending through a spire composed of multiple levels. These are procedurally generated, as players also received new cards as rewards to construct a deck that can complete the whole crawl. These are four different starting characters, a relic that gives them a unique ability, several cards and approaches, a branching level structure that ends with a boss fight, and so on. It’s pretty straightforward in terms of design, but it’s how all of these unique elements come together that make it a standout game.
As a card game,Slay the Spire’s combat is turn-based, where players will receive fresh cards and three energy points every round. Any card not played due to energy limitation is discarded. Overall, it’s pretty straightforward here too, but the appeal comes from building the card and relic synergy to make these decks well, implementing winning strategies, and so on.
These may not be what manyPS Plus users were hoping for, in comparison to the April 2021 games, and they may prove lackluster for many. It does seem likely that one or two of these will be enjoyed by a solid number of PS Plus users, though.
