Red Dead Online, much like its sibling Rockstar Games,Grand Theft Auto Online, is absolutely massive. The scope of these two online multiplayer games means nearly infinite permutations can happen, includingmassive amounts of game-breaking bugsand a litany of ways for bad players to make things miserable for others just trying to enjoy the game. A small bug that was providing a more pastoral life for some inRed Dead Onlinelooking to avoid that nonsense though has apparently been patched out recently.
A place of solace for players inGrand Theft Auto Onlinewho want to avoid griefers and other irritating players is private and invite-only lobbies, a featureRed Dead Onlineplayers have been begging for since day one. Private lobbies inGTA Onlineallow players to avoid being griefed by players flying around in rocket-launching motorcycles and having their deliveries of drugs and other illicit materials destroyed. Players inRDOwho want to avoid things liketrolls dressed as KKK members harassing them, unfortunately, do not have that luxury.

Recently though, players have been enjoying what some call a bug of sorts that has been keeping the number of players per lobby relatively small, allowing players to enjoy things inRed Dead Online, like hunting for legendary gators, in relative peace. Apparently though, a recent update toRDOhas changed the way lobbies are populated, eliminating those peaceful lobbies.
This lower number of players per lobby meant that things like legendary animal spawns and free-roam events were much easier to come across and participate in, and that the game wassimply more enjoyable for many. Now, there are reports that lobbies are fuller and the things that players had been enjoying might now be a thing of the past, at least for PC players.
A simple fix that would make many practically everyone happy would be for Rockstar to introduce a private lobby option forRed Dead Onlinefor those who want it. But the likely reason Rockstar hasn’t introduced such a feature forRDOyet is that the playerbase not nearly as large asGTA Online, and thus may cause more low-player/empty public lobbies, which would be a bad look for the game.
Hopefully Rockstar games can find a way to balance the needs and wants of its players who prefer a more solitary, but still online experience along whilst still maintaining a healthy-looking public gameplay experience.
Red Dead Redemption 2is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
