On January 21 at 2pm PT, fans of Capcom’sResident Evilfranchise can tune in to a special showcase event that will give them an idea of what to expect from the series' future. Besides the fact thatResident Evil 8will be featured prominently during the showcase, Capcom has been rather vague about what exactly fans can expect from the event. Now a newResident Evil 8teaser trailer has been released that also includes some fresh information on the showcase.

TheResident Evilshowcase on January 21 will be hosted by Brittney Brombacher, and it will feature a brand new trailer forResident Evil 8as well as a gameplay walkthrough.Resident Evil 8’s gorilla man bosscan be seen in the teaser, with players seemingly encountering him in a stream along with a horde of blade-wielding monsters.Resident Evil 8protagonist Ethan Winters defends himself with a shotgun in the clip, and players can also see a glimpse of his quick-select inventory as well.

The very brief newResident Evil 8gameplay on display in the teaser trailer shows that the game should be readily familiar to those who played throughResident Evil 7. The more supernatural enemies, likeResident Evil 8’s strangely tall witch/vampire woman, are definitely departures from the norm, however.

WhileResident Evil 8will be the main focus of the showcase, the teaser trailer also suggests that fans of the franchise have more to look forward to. Brombacher says at the end of the trailer that fans will learn more news “related to theResident Evilfranchise,” but stops short of offering any further details. A separate PlayStation Blog post hyping the event teases a few “surprises” for fans at the showcase, so it could really be just about anything.

The teaser trailer doesn’t reveal what otherResident Evilnews fans may be able to look forward to during the showcase, but some leaks may have already let the cat out of the bag. According to recent leaks, anewResident Evilmultiplayer gamemay be in development, with its reveal taking place at theResident Evilshowcase. Members of theResident EvilAmbassador program have already been invited to test the game, so one has to imagine that if it’s not at the showcase, the reveal is still going to happen sooner rather than later. The exact nature of the secretResident Evilmultiplayer game remains a mystery, however, so hopefully fans get answers sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, it’s possible that theResident Evilshowcase will have announcements related to theResident Evilfranchise as a whole, not just in terms of video games. This could include a look at theupcomingResident Evilmovie reboot, or perhaps some new information on theResident Evil: Infinite DarknessNetflix series. Fans will just have to keep speculating until the showcase on January 21.

Resident Evil 8is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
