Riot Games is often working to keep its hit games feeling fresh and interesting. Tactical shooterValorantonly released a couple of years ago, and yetRiot’s latest game has seen consistent updatesadding new maps, new Agents, and changing the way both of those work within its meta.League of Legendshas been around for a lot longer thanValorant, and has seen a multitude of significant changes in the years since it first became available.
Perhaps one of the most important changes toLeague of Legends, at least to players, was the quickening of the pace of the game. Team fights and combat were especially noted to have been made quicker, with battles that used to last for half a minute or so now being over in a flash. It seems now though, that Riot is looking to change that.Patch 12.8 has just released forLeague of Legends, bringing a heap of new changes including some reworks to Champions like Skarner and Udyr.

Even with a new patch just coming out, Riot is already revealing some of the upcoming changes that will make their way intoLeague of Legendswith Patch 12.9. Responding to a post on theLeague of LegendsReddit page regarding the game’s increasing levels of damage, RiotAxes, a developer account for Riot, revealed that the team had been discussing ways to counteract the ease of killing an enemy and make it more of a time-consuming effort.
Considering the response to the initial Reddit post was that Riot should work on increasing the time of combat inLeague of Legends, many fans were excited to hear that the developer would be working on returning the game to an older state when it comes to fights. This is not to say thatLeague of Legendswill be painfully slow, but it might stop a player feeling they were unfairly obliterated without much time to react. This teaser for an upcoming change toLeague of Legendsfollows the recentleak of a new Championcoming to the game.
The decision to slow down combat may not prove too popular with newer fans, who have only seen quick fights and combat, but to those older fans, it may give them a reason to return toLeague of Legends. No matter how Riot changes the game, it is unlikely that the company will ruinLeague of Legends’popularity.
