Preparing for most comic book hero roles require strict training and an even stricter diet. But Robert Pattinson’s bland diet forThe Batmanhas him not wanting to see some particular foods ever again.
When Pattinson was first cast inThe Batmanback in 2019, many fans were skeptical about whether the actor could look the part, especially when looking back atBen Affleck’s brawny depiction in the DCEU. It didn’t help when the actor blatantly said he would not spend as much time working on his physique. But fast-forward a couple of years later and from the first few trailers, it was clear that Pattinson was not telling the truth.

“Training’s a lot more fun when you get good at it,” Pattinson shared with On Demand Entertainment. “Once you pass over the six-week mark then it’s alright, then you feel bad if you’re not doing it. It’s kind of what everyone says.” While training went smoothly for him, one aspect of preparing to play Batman that he will not miss is the bland diet, especially a particular fish meal.
“I never want to see a piece of white fish with just lemon on it ever again,” Pattinson said. While it may have not been the most exciting food to eat, it’s clear that Pattinson’s training and diet restrictions paid off, as this version of the caped crusader seems more brutal and agile than ever. It also makes sense for Pattinson to follow a healthy regimen for the narrative, as he is playing aBatman who is only in his second yearof fighting crime in Gotham City.
Hisco-star Zoë Kravitz, who plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman, also added her thoughts on the preparation for playing such an iconic character. “Three months of training beforehand and then you have to keep it up, so you literally just film and train,” the actress said. “That’s the only thing that we did.”
The Batmanis just one day away from its theatrical release, and early reviews are already claiming the Matt Reeves film to beone of the best live-actionBatmanfilms to date. Joining Pattinson and Kravitz are Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Peter Sarsgaard as district attorney Gil Colson, and Barry Keoghan as young officer Stanley Merkel. The film will be the first of a planned trilogy, while two spin-off series for HBO Max, one focusing on the Penguin and the other centered on the point of view of the GCPD, are in early development.
The Batmanarrives in theaters on March 4 and on HBO Max on August 03, 2025.
