According to the latest rumors, a newSuper Mariobaseball game could be in development for the Nintendo Switch that will potentially feature guest characters. Nintendo has created numerousSuper Mariosports games over the years, with fresh iterations readily available on its latest console. However, the Nintendo Switch still has yet to see the addition of a newSuper Mariobaseball game.
While Mario has had plenty of practice on golf courses and tennis courts, he’s only had a few chances at bat on a baseball diamond. The first time Mario ever appeared in a baseball game was the 1989 Game Boy gameBaseball, but his more well-known baseball games are the GameCube’sMario Superstar Baseballand the Wii’sMario Super Sluggers. Nonew Mario baseball gameever released on the Wii U, and the Switch still hasn’t seen one despite being nearly six years old at this point.

Nintendo has not officially announced a new Mario baseball game, but a frequent Nintendo leaker has claimed that such a project is in development. According to Nintendo leaker Zippo, a new Mario baseball game is in the works as a joint collaboration between Bandai Namco and Now Production. Zippo also hinted that the game will feature guest characters, suggesting thatPac-Man will be one such character.
This isn’t the first time Zippo has claimed that a new Mario sports game is in development. In fact, Zippo first claimed that anewSuper Mariosports gamewas in development around this time last year. That previous report suggested that the game was likely baseball themed and was in development at Bandai Namco, so it seems Zippo is doubling down on the claim that a new Mario baseball game is in the works.
Nintendo traditionally hosts a Direct presentation in Februaryevery year, and if it does so again this year, one would imagine that such a project could very well be revealed at that point. Of course, it’s entirely possible that the Nintendo Direct will come and go with no mention of the Mario baseball game whatsoever, and fans should keep that in mind. If the project is real, though, it will be interesting to see if it does feature guest characters and if Pac-Man is a guest star.
Such revelations would help validate Zippo’s leaks and lend credibility so some of the other claims they’ve made recently, like that a new2DSuper Mariogameis in development. Nintendo fans should keep their expectations in check and take all rumors like this with a grain of salt in the meantime.
