Deadline broke the new about Quaid joining the cast ofOppenheimer, but details on his role are currently unknown. What is known is that Quaid will be joined by Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, andThe Amazing Spider-Man 2star Dane DeHaan. Oppenheimer will mark Quaid’s first time working with Nolan. Universal reportedly had no comment on Quaid’s casting.

In addition to his aforementionedrole inScream 5, Quaid may be best known for playing Hughie Campbell in Amazon’sThe Boys. His resume also includes some voice work as Ensign Bradward “Brad” Boimler inStark Trek: Lower Decks, an animated series that focuses on the lower deck crew members of theCerritos. Of course, Quaid has also appeared on the big screen in films such asRampageand Steven Soderbergh’sLogan Lucky.

Oppenheimeralso marks Nolan’s move to Universal after having worked with Warner Bros. on all of his feature films ever since 2002’sInsomnia. The fallout between Nolan and Warner Bros. was reportedly over the studios' decision to release all of its 2021 films on HBO Max day-and-date with theaters. Nolan, whose most recentfilm for Warner Bros. wasTenet, has been an avid supporter of the theatrical experience, arguing that films, especially the kind he makes, are made specifially to be seen on the largest screen possible.

Of course, Nolan is probably going to deliver an interesting, if not excellent, film no matter which studio he’s partnering with. So, audiences are likely just hoping that Universal grants Nolan the creative freedom and theatrical release forOppenheimerthat he seemingly wants.

Oppenheimeris scheduled to be released in theaters on July 04, 2025.
