AlthoughScream5won’t be out until January, Paramount is using the Thanksgiving holiday to promote the horror film in a creative way. To mark “Friendskilling,“Scream 5has got a new motion poster and photo featuring the notorious Ghostface Killer.
Plot details forScream 5are scarce, but the official synopsis for the film does state thatGhostface will return to"resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.” Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette return to their iconic roles fromScreamalongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.

ThenewScream 5posterruns for twenty seconds and features a large knife in the center. In the reflection of the blade, the faces of the main cast, fan-favorites and newcomers, can be seen interchanging. Of course, Ghostface is seen at the beginning, seemingly stabbing an unseen victim. The image, on the other hand, shows Ghostface standing over a body in what appears to be a parking lot. The caption included in the Twitter post reads, “Play dead for me,” perhaps implying that the person on the ground is merely playing possum in order to avoid becoming Ghostface’s latest victim.
It looks like this will be another case of meeting the old school and new school for the upcoming fifth installment inthe long-runningScreamfranchise. This film will be a pivotal entry in theScreamfranchise moving forward. It can either set the story up for another film or potentially wrap the series for one final curtain call. There’s also something to be said about theScreamtelevision series, which seemed as if took place in its own world and allowed the writers to have creative freedom.
Horror franchises are notorious for getting multiple sequels. The issue is that the more fans get to see the “monster” or killer, then the less scary they become.Halloweenand thePredatorfilms are both examples of horror franchises that be getting more sequels in the next few years. Despite their success, there are some films that deserve to be laid to rest instead of trying to make something live past its lifeline. Hopefully,Scream,Predator, andHalloweencan set the blueprint for these films moving forward.
Scream’sGhostfacekiller is also a popular horror movie icon. In fact,Ghostface made his way intoCall of Dutyas a playable costume/character in the popular battle royale video gameCall of Duty Warzone.While hemay not be as widely used in popular culture as other characters such as Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers, it looks like Ghostface is definitely on the way up.
