One of the last versions ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimto be released was the VR edition. Released in November of 2017, the VR version allowed first-person players to fully immerse themselves in the game. The combination of mods and VR, however, has given gamers some truly memorable experiences.

SinceThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimhit shelves and digital storefronts, modders have put their talents to work on either improving the game or making it absolutely bonkers. One mod, in particular, shows simple fantasy come to life. The mod in question was released in April andallows players to pet animals inSkyrim, something missing from the original version. Thanks to this mod and the VR headset a gamer known as Orbitgum was able to fulfill their fantasy of petting a giant bear while it slept.
Mods that allow this to happen are not uncommon within theSkyrimcommunity. A recent addition to these modsincludes a multiplayer version ofSkyrim, allowing the Dragonborn to fight side by side with others. Sometimes, however, the simple pleasures of petting a deadly animal in a video game can be the most potent wish-fulfillment fantasy of them all.
Whether theVR version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis the best version of the game is subjective as VR versions of any game have a lot of limitations. The headset is big, bulky, and uncomfortable to some and requires a lot more physical movement than simply using a controller. The graphics are also noticeably downgraded when compared to the regular versions of the game. People who are subject to motion sickness are also ones who may not be able to fully experience any game in this mode to its fullest extent.
On the other hand, the results for those who can experienceSkyrimin full VR mode are clearly in for a treat. While this version of the game doesn’t add a lot to it, simple pleasures like being able tojump up and smack a sign inSkyrim VR, for example, are hard to beat. But the modders, as always, have picked up Bethesda’s slack and made the experience slightly more enjoyable. This time around, it just happened to be in a more low-key way.
