In the world ofSkyrim, it can be difficult to get important news to an adventurer like the Dragonborn, but a recent clip shows how dedicated the courier NPC is, even risking life and limb to hand over a letter. DespiteSkyrimbeing one of the most immersive open-world gamesaround,The Elder Scrolls 5has a few moments where that illusion can be shattered. However, to a lot of fans, that just makes the epic RPG ever more entertaining.

What forms part of this immersion is the amount of characters and companions that make up the residents of this wintry province.Skyrimhas some pretty memorable NPCs, some of whom are notable for being just and true, while others are known for less joyful reasons. Whether it’s tasking Lydia with carrying gear while out on a dangerous quest or knocking Whiterun’s patronizing Nazeem down a peg or two, these are the people that are the heart and soul of this slice of Tamriel. One other major character that players know only too well is the courier.

Unlike a lot of NPCs inSkyrim, the courier is one that players can’t seem to get away from. This tenacity and obligation to his role was experienced by Reddit user Taylor-James who, during their playthrough, was accosted by the messenger at a rather inconvenient time. Mere moments before a dragon attacks, the courier approaches to deliver an important letter, seemingly unfazed by the impending danger. Even as the winged beast swoops down mere inches from his face, his dedication helps him keep his nerve, determined to see the job through.

Situations like this are not rare, either. There have been moments during the game whereSkyrim’s courier has been seen underwateror without any clothes on. Over time, he’s become something of a legend himself and while it’s almost certain that this steely determination was not intentional, it has made him stand out as a noteworthy individual who’s, admittedly tone-deaf, bravery makes him almost worthy of the Dragonborn’s fame.

There are truly someodd things that can occur inSkyrim, some of which are a product of bugs that still remain, while others are just due to the game being somewhat dated now. It may be of legendary status, butTES5is quite the unique beast. Famous for its in-depth lore and beautiful scenery while also being infamous for immersion-breaking glitches, Bethesda’s 2011 release inspires celebration and mockery in equal portions. WhetherThe Elder Scrolls 6will feature such iconic NPCs remains to be seen at this stage, but the next entry in the series has its work cut out for it if it wants to enjoy as much longevity asSkyrim.

Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
