Summary
The bosses that appear inSonic Superstarsnot only provide a nice challenge to overcome by using the abilities of the characters andthe Chaos Emeralds. They also allow the player to take a break from all the high-speed action of the regular stages. Bosses inSonicgames can be hit-or-miss. Some entries execute them extremely well; for example,Sonic Adventure 2has some of the most iconic fights in the series. But others, like those inSonic 06,are more annoying or even frustrating.
Luckily,Superstarsdoes a fantastic job. Its wide catalog of boss enemies are difficult to beat, but still fair in the challenge they present the player. Many of them are quite straightforward, but a handful of bosses willrequire a little more strategy and careful planning to overcome. These bosses don’t actually have official names in the game, so they will be referred to by the stages in which they appear.

6Sky Temple Zone Act 1
Upon reaching this boss while running through Sky Temple,Dr. Eggmanwill destroy the floor, forcing Sonic and his friends to hover in the air while trying to avoid razor-blade projectiles. This is one of the rare occasions where the fight can be a little trickier whenfour players are onscreen at once. There are only a few small gaps to avoid losing Rings during this part of the battle.
Eventually, a few small building blocks will appear. The characters must use these blocks to reach Eggman at the very top. This gives them the opportunity to bounce onto his head and cause some real damage.

The first few parts of the fight are pretty mild, but towards the end, Eggman starts firing a barrage of projectiles. At this point it becomes harder to avoid taking damage, but it’s still fun and never gets irritating.
5Cyber Station Zone Act 1
For the majority of this fight, Eggman hovers in the background firing a laser from his pod while hismini-robot companiondoes all the work. This little guy can seem pretty weak at first, but when he starts finding new ways to take out Sonic and his friends, things become more difficult. Initially, the robot will shoot out tiny sparks that are fairly easy to dodge. After taking a few hits, it will acquire a mech-suit capable of firing deadly lasers. These are a lot harder to avoid, especially as the environment starts to become more unpredictable.
The mini-robot will even start using a charge attack from left to right, which is just high enough to catch anyone out who’s already pressed the jump button. The robot will grow to a gigantic size at the end of the battle, going berserk and launching a random flurry of attacks at the player. This isanother fight which is pretty simple at first, but goes from 0 to 100 no time. verify to keep an eye out for any oncoming obstacles in the terrain, and plan ahead to avoid the robot’s ruthless attacks.

4Press Factory Zone Act 1
This is one of, if not the most unusual-looking boss in the game. The giant robot monkey that the characters face in the Press Factory has an incrediblyunorthodox fighting style, which can make it hard to predict what his next attack is going to be. When he jumps back to the giant switch seen in the background, it means he’s about to start swinging down the giant hammers at the top of the stage. But as the fight goes on, these become faster and more of them activate at once.
This isn’t too much of an issue for Sonic or even Knuckles, who can simply glide his way to safety. However, for Amy or Tails, it can be a real challenge getting out of harm’s way. Occasionally, the monkey will jump onto the rail and start swinging around. This luckily gives the player a bit of breathing room, since this attack is much slower. Regardless, this fight can easily catch out players who are on the slower side.

3Frozen Base Zone Act 2
This fight takes place at the end of Frozen Base Act 2, and plays drastically differently from the rest of the game. It almost feels like a horizontal version ofSpace Invaders. In this boss battle, Sonic and the gang must pilotsmall space shuttles. Using these, they must dodge the endless projectiles fired out from the mouth of the wide-eyed robot that continuously moves up and down the screen.
This might sound basic, but in practice, this boss is much harder than it first seems. It’simpossible to predict its attack pattern. Rather than having a set movement, the robot will instead move up, down, or remain stationary whenever it feels like it. If the player takes their eyes off the screen for even a second, they’re almost guaranteed to receive damage. The key is staying as far to the left of the screen as possible since the projectiles are shot out incredibly fast. It’s a good thing that the second form is a little more forgiving.

2Frozen Base Zone Act 1
Before flying out into the stars at the end of Frozen Base Act 2, players will face pterodactyl-like machine that shows up to stop Sonic, Knuckles, Tales, and Amy in their tracks. This enemy isarmed to the teeth with weapons. It will sporadically throw out ice-bombs, mini dinosaur missiles, and even electric projectiles that grow in size before eventually exploding.
What makes the fight so difficult is how fast it is. Player barely have any time to react to the projectiles flying around them. The uneven environment, mixed with the boss’s ability to destroy platforms at will, makes it near-impossible to plan ahead. Players need a lot of luck to make it through the encounter in one piece.

There are a few small tricks that can help make the boss a tad easier. Players can bounce on the small dinosaur missiles as soon as they exit the boss’s mouth, which will open up an opportunity to attack. This boss fight is far from a walk in the park, but it can be overcome witha lot of perseveranceand quick thinking.
1Egg Fortress Act 2
This boss has a ridiculous amount of weapons, attacks, and variations. But the biggest reason why it’s so hard, and in some cases even frustrating, isbecause of how long the fight is. Players must dodge missiles, perform tricky platforming segments, and navigate their way through the air in zero gravity. It can take as long as 20 minutes, depending on how careful they’re being. A simple slip up can spell an easy game over, and since there are no checkpoints between the boss variants, players will need to start the whole thing again.
The second phase of the encounter is especially tricky. Eggman activates his zero-gravity module, which elevates the characters, all while firing a never-ending supply of electrified projectiles. It’s a boss thatrequires precise timingand a lot of patience to overcome. It is without a doubt the most punishing boss inSonic Superstars.
