Sony has finally revealed the time and date of its CES 2020 press conference, where the company is rumored to debut the next entry into its illustrious console line up - the PlayStation 5. It’s a particularly exciting time for the games industry, as the lead up to a new console is always fueled by interesting rumors and speculation.
Over on Sony’s website, the company revealed that its live stream will begin at 5 pm PST on Monday, January 6th. There, Sony should have quite a bit to announce, whether that means a full reveal of the PlayStation 5, or something entirely different. Right now, the company’s page is decorated with the words “the future is coming,” which implies that there will be something big for fans to fawn over. Sony has been teasing aPS5 reveal at CES 2020for about a week, and the time seems right to formally debut the console.

Microsoftrevealed the Xbox Series Xat The Game Awards back in December, a smart moved that showed off the console to a much broader audience than the one it would have had in its own, separate live stream. It’s possible that Sony wasn’t expecting such a move, and is now playing catch-up with Microsoft’s strategy. If a reveal does happen at CES, there are sure to be comparisons between the two, as it will likely be the jumping-off point of yet another console war.
A prior leak suggested that Sony would host aPlayStation-centric event in Februarythis year, so it seems a little strange that the company would do a reveal at CES. That being said, it’s possible that Sony saves most of its hand for its own event, leaving plenty of space for a quick unveiling at CES and promising more details at the PlayStation Meeting event in February. Of course, it’s also possible that Sony never intended to throw an event, and the leak was incorrect.
It’ll be interesting to see what the company has in store to show the world. On one hand, a new PlayStation reveal would be amazing. However, Sony does dabble in plenty of electronics, so there’s plenty of other stuff that may make an appearance when its showtime. Maybe, thePlayStation 5 will even take some cues from Xbox. There are only a few days to wait before fans find out.
