Spider-Man: Miles Moralescame as a surprise during the PlayStation 5 reveal event. While the new game had been heavily rumored, the quick turnaround time betweenSpider-ManPS4 andMiles Moraleswas something of a curveball. There hadn’t been much news about the game until today, during the most recentPlayStation 5 event, where Sony showed its hand for this holiday season.

One of the relatively unexpected appearances was a new gameplaydemo for Spider-Man Miles Morales, showing off some of the flashy set pieces fans can expect from the game. While the visual improvements are obvious, fans also get a better look at some of Miles' unique abilities versus Peter Parker’s, which should make the two feel distinct from one another when the game launches.

The gameplay starts off with Miles walking through a crowded festival, similar to what players saw during theHalloween portion of the firstSpider-Man. Lighting has clearly been overhauled, with sharp effects throughout the demo. Miles' mom is running for office, but things quickly go awry, leading to a conflict between two factions, and a reveal of Tinkerer as the game’s villain, or at least one the one’s making an appearance.

The gameplay looks fast-paced, with far more effects during combat sequences than what was featured in the original. There are multiple enemy types, gadgets, and Miles' signature camouflage ability, which has its very own gauge in the game’s UI. There are still quick time events, as seen when Miles saves a bus, but overall, the game looks to be a big visual improvement over the first game.

Of course, there are still plenty of questions about the game that haven’t been answered. WhileMiles Moralesshould be likeLost Legacyin terms of scope, it isn’t clear how long it will end up being, which may make some fans apprehensive to invest. More will likely be revealed as fans get closer to the game’s launch date.

Spider-Man PS4set numerous records for superhero video games, soMiles Moraleshas big shoes to fill. It isn’t a full sequel, and the PS5 will barely be out when it launches, so it’s unlikely that it will do quite as well as its predecessor. Still, the game has a host of performance and visual enhancements that may make it more appealing to those that manage to snag a launch PS5, which is a major advantage for the new game.
