Fans of the Nintendo Switch re-release forStar Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2are understandably upset over the recent news about the game’s planned Restored Content DLC.Knights of the Old Republic 2was originally developed by Obsidian, but the port has been handled by Aspyr.TheKnights of the Old Republicseries is one of the most celebrated in thelong list ofStar Warsvideo games. It makes sense that the series has spanned generations, from its original release on the Xbox back in the early ’00s to the recent Nintendo Switch ports. The Switch port ofKnights of the Old Republic 2came with a promise, though, and fans recently discovered that it’s now not going to be delivered upon.RELATED:Rumor: Sony Dealt A Major Blow to KOTOR 3 ChancesAspyr is the studio responsible for many of the classicStar Warsgames getting ports to modern consoles, including the Switch version forKnights of the Old Republic 2. A recent tweet from the studio reveals that the Restored Content DLC has been canceled for the Switch with no plans of ever renewing it for a future release. This news has been met with wide backlash from fans who own the Switch release, many calling for refunds as this DLC had beenpromised prior toKOTOR 2’s launchand was a major selling point.
TheRestored Content DLC began as a fan mod forKOTOR 2’s initial PC releaseback in 2004. There were several missions and dialog options, among other things, that were cut from the final release of the game by Obsidian, which led to the game feeling a little rushed upon release. The mod made the game feel whole, however, and its inclusion in the Switch port felt necessary for many fans who sought to experience the full game as it was intended. Aspyr initially promised to deliver on that content showing up in the game eventually but in an effort to ease the disappointing news, gamers who boughtKOTOR 2on Switch can get one of Aspyr’s otherStar WarsSwitch ports for free.
This is another in a string of signs that Aspyr is in a rough place as a studio right now. Last year, the developer waspushed out of working on the much-hypedKnights of the Old Republicremakein favor of Saber Interactive. Several Aspyr developers were fired from that project, and it’s possible that the studio hasn’t been able to fully recover since, leaving the Restored Content DLC as collateral damage. In its wake are disappointed fans and a classicStar Warsgame left incomplete.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2is available now on Mobile, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
