Summary

AStarfieldplayer has come across a peculiar stack of food items that have remained untouched from a terminal desk. Surrounded by nothing but computing technology and desk accessories, the player makes note of the abnormal scene that appears to be purposefully put in place.

Fans ofStarfieldare familiar with Bethesda’s use of Creation Engine 2. It allows for advanced volumetric lighting and realistic global radiant lighting, and it’s set to power its anticipatedElder Scrolls 6title. With this, the graphics are enhanced to complement the RPG development of a Bethesda game. It also allows for clearer storytelling elements to be on display, with items and environments to add a layer of narrative design. While this may be used for more experimental and comical purposes, it’s utilized to help tell stories in a Bethesda game. That is until one player came across an unusual sighting.

While looking through an area inStarfield, Reddit user Dibbler84 encountered a stack of butter sticks sitting on a desk, surrounded by computer equipment, desk accessories, and an Eggmund Desk Assistant. With no explanation to warrant the existence of the butter sticks at the desk, the player is left confused. “Item placement in this game is so bizarre,” Dibbler84 captions as they attach a screenshot of the butter sitting next to the Starware equipment.

There was no avenue that would provide any answer to the butter mystery. Not even any comments under the Redditor’s post have seemed to offer any help, only some humor that pokes fun at the presence of the butter sticks next to some computer equipment. It’s a case of finding something completely out of place forStarfieldand its food items.

Creation Engine 2 is a relatively newer video game engine that’s received bothpraise and criticism for its graphical performance. Many call it a massive improvement over the original engine while some claim that only small aspects received a facelift. Regardless, with the launch ofStarfield, players were quick to notice the differences between the current iteration of the engine and the one that they’ve been accustomed to for several years withSkyrim,Fallout 4, andFallout 76.

Starfieldmay be the introduction for the Creation Engine 2 and its capabilities, but there’s no telling what is intentional and what is not. A stack of butter sticks at a computer desk may seem random, yet it could paint a picture for a small story that Bethesda is trying to reference. One such possible solution is that it’s a reference to modder Elianora, who is known for generating mods for theSkyrimmodding community. This was also shared in the comments for the Reddit user’s post, so it’s only speculation at this time. Still, the player can happily walk with four sticks of butter to use for any crafting recipes.

Starfieldis available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
