The last thing players expect inApex Legendsis to be one-shot by a loot ball and not a weapon, but as it turns out, that may be exactly what they get. Players attempting to open some of the many loot balls inApex Legendsare finding that when they attempt to punch open the loot ball, the loot ball punches back.
Reddit user bigdealmo posted a clip of themselves knocking a loot ball out of the sky and running over to hit it open, business as usual. But the moment the player touched it, the loot ball immediately killed them. The bug itself isn’t new, as there are instances going back as far as a year, such as when Reddit user Lancelot491 ran into the same issue. Again, as soon as the player made physical contact with the loot ball, they were killed. In both cases, not only were the player models making direct contact with the loot balls, but the loot balls landed on a platform.Apex Legendsplayers need the weaponsand ammo in loot balls to get an advantage, making the sudden death all the more annoying.

This isn’t as widespread as thebug preventing players from looting death boxes, but it’s been around for longer. The glitch has to do with the game not recognizing that the loot box is no longer falling. In both of the clips posted by bigdealmo and Lancelot491, the loot ball is shot out of the sky but lands on a platform. While it appears that the loot ball is lying on the ground, the game still thinks it’s in the air and falling. So, when a character model touches the falling loot box, the game assumes that the player was hit by the falling loot box and crushed. This glitch could occur if the loot ball lands on uneven surfaces and especially if those surfaces are moving.
Apex Legendswill likely take a while to fix this glitch, so players have to be wary of what they punch. When it happened, bigdealmo said that they punched the loot ball, and it exploded. But in actuality, the loot ball flattened them. Being crushed by a stationary care package is almost as funny as getting hit by a parked car, especially when one isn’t expecting it. Though, it’s frustrating to lose a game because the code for loot ball physics turned a supposed reward into a lethal booby trap.
Apex Legendsis designing new game modesand adding new stuff to the game, meanwhile, the glitch is a relatively minor, albeit annoying problem. For now, players should time their shots on loot balls so that they land in open areas without any platforms around. It’s probably a good rule of thumb to avoid bashing the loot balls opened with melee when they land in those spots, too, just to avoid a premature exit from the game. Just shoot them open.
Apex Legendsis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
