The Internet’s obsession with the free browser puzzle gameWordlehas been well documented ever since the beginning of 2022. InWordle, players are given six attempts to figure out a five-letter word, with whatever letters used to help sus out the correct one. Whether they succeed or fail will result in the game being over and not being able to play again until the next day.Wordle’s widespread and viral appealhas resulted in several clones and variations on its concept.

TheseWordlecloneshave popped up all over the web. TheseWordlesites challenge a player’s knowledge in a variety of ways and topics. These include gaming topics such asFortniteandPokemon, history, or even song titles for various media. It’s no surprise that some of theseWordleclones are more popular than others, with a recent study being conducted on this subject.

This study was conducted by ProWritingAid, an app that helps writers with editing using AI and other mechanics. This study had analyzed over 30Wordlespin-offs that have been created, comparing its average monthly search results on Google. At the very top of the list with an average of 37,200,000 searches is aWordleclone based on Geography,Worldle. A spokesperson from ProWritingAid commented on this being the top result, with them wondering if players are actively looking for this clone, or if it’s due it being a common typo.

Coming in at second place with a million monthly average search results is theWordlecloneQuordle. This variation is just like the original, except players have to solve four words at the same time, with each guess being placed in four squares. In third place, the clone known asWordle Unlimitedhas a monthly average of 673,000 searches. As the title of the clone implies, this allows for unlimitedWordleplay, giving players the chance to play for as long as they like to practice their skills.

In fourth place is the math based Nerdle, where players have to guess for the equation of the day. Bottoming out the top five is Heardle, where players have to guess a song based on the first few seconds that they hear. For the clones that cracked the top 10 includethe inappropriate variantLewdle, another Geography based version calledGloble, and versions where players play multiple games at once in the form ofOctordleandDordle. The movie-basedWordlecloneFramedmanages to crack the top 10 as well.
