For years,Tales from the Borderlandsfans have been waiting for answers about the game’s ending. Specifically, gamers want to know what happened to Fiona the Con Artist after she entered into the Vault of the Traveler, as the character seemingly disappeared without a trace. WithRhysstill searching for her inBorderlands 3, Gearbox has left this plot thread dangling, and hopefully it will be explored in a future title.

When aTales from the Borderlandssequel was announced, fans assumed that they would finally be getting answers about the original game’s ending. However, a recent age rating for the game confirms that it will instead focus on a new cast, leaving fans to wonder if any closure will be provided after all. While not featuring Rhys and Fiona would be a shame given their popularity, the ongoing mystery surrounding the latter would make this decision truly disappointing.

Tales from the Borderlands 2’s New Cast

Much like theTales from the Borderlands 2silhouettessuggested, the upcoming game will seemingly follow a new cast of characters on an entirely fresh adventure. Revealed by a description and age rating for the game, players will be following the story of three never-before-seen characters. Supposedly, the plot will revolve around a mysterious crystal that has some unique healing powers, an item that could surely play a big role in a choice-based narrative.

Anu will supposedly be a major character, and they are a scientist hoping to use the aforementioned crystal to heal their brother Octavio. If thisTales from the Borderlands 2infois accurate, the third major character will apparently be named Fran, and they will be the owner of a frozen yoghurt shop. Perhaps this shop will be the same one destroyed by Katagawa Jr. inBorderlands 3, and Rhys’ love for frozen yoghurt could be a way to sneak in a cameo. Still, fans are understandably concerned that this new cast of characters means there will be no explanation of the originalTales from the Borderlands’ ending.

Fiona’s Story Could Still Be Resolved in Tales from the Borderlands 2

While it does seem like the new story will primarily focus on some brand-new characters, that does not mean that Fiona’s plot line has to be abandoned. Though she is seemingly not playable,Fionacould still be a key supporting character in the story, with the new cast members stumbling upon her during their own adventure. This way, longtime fans could get some closure on Fiona’s tale while still getting to enjoy a brand-new one.

Outside of Fiona, otherTales from the Borderlandscharacters could appear. Though Rhys is likely to have a smaller role given his position as Atlas CEO, fans do not know what Sasha has been up to in the years that have gone by since the firstTales from the Borderlands. The same can be said forthe lovable Gortysand Loader Bot as well as Athena and Springs. While both pairings seemingly went off into the sunset to live their lives as happy couples, getting an update on what they have been up to could be a lot of fun.

Ultimately, though, it is Fiona’s whereabouts that need to be touched on. With Rhys clearly being fine after he teleported, as he just went on to build up his new empire, it is odd that no information has been shared about what Fiona is up to. There is certainly potential in a fresh story that is disconnected fromthe previousTales from the Borderlands, but taking a bit of time to address fans’ questions about Fiona is a must. Even if she appears briefly as a side character, Gearbox has a chance to answer one of the series’ biggest lingering questions, and it would be a huge missed opportunity to continue leaving her story unfinished.

The newTales From the Borderlandsis set to be released later in 2022.
