While there have been manySpider-Maniterations with many of the actors donning the Spidey suit over the years, each came with their own pros and cons. Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man revolutionized superhero cinema with Saim Raimi’sSpider-Mantrilogy and Andrew Garfield’s spider-suit was the most comic accurate. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man on the other hand, offers the best of both worlds and for that reason is a fan favorite among many.
However, if there’s one thing many are not fond of about the MCU Spidey, it is his suit design. Up until the end of his first trilogy, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man suit never looked or felt right. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Suit Never Looked Right
If there’s one thing the MCU has revolutionized whenit comes to superhero suit designsacross all universes, it’s adding a modern touch to them. Initially, the change sounded and looked cool, but it quickly became the standard of every superhero movie, deviating away from the comic accuracy of superhero suits just to infuse that modern touch. This factor essentially sets the characters widely apart from their comic counterparts, and Spider-Man is another victim of it.
Despite Tom Holland’s Spider-Man making the most appearances out of any other Spider-Men, his suit never felt right in all six of his appearances. One of the biggest reasons for that could be the fact that his suits were mostly made by Stark Tech instead of Peter himself. Sure, Tom’s Spidey suits are far superior to any of his pioneers in terms of strength and technology but they lack in the design department. One of the least favorite Spider-Man suits is the Iron Spider suit which had more of Iron Man’s aesthetics than Spider-Man himself. Not to mention that the suit was entirely CGI too, which also made it look worse on-screen.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Suit Kept Changing
Change doesn’t necessarily happen for the better which is also true for Holland’s Spider-Man suit. Designing a makeshift Spidey costume before actually making a proper one is a canon event for every Spider-Man, but none of the previous Spider-Men wore this many different suits compared to Holland. Tobey Maguire’s suit stayed the same throughout the trilogy aside from theSpider-Man 3when the Venom symbiote took over. Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man had two suits for each of hisAmazing Spider-Manmovies. Both actors even donned the same suit again inSpider-Man: No Way Home. However, when it comes to Tom, his Spidey donned a whopping eightdifferent suits in all of hissix appearances in the MCU. Even if there was a suit that some liked, it appeared on-screen for a very short time, for instance, the black and gold suit which was basically his red and black costume turned inside out, or even the Night Monkey suit that was under the alias of NIght Monkey instead of Spider-Man.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Suit May Finally Be Perfect
Rather than gradually building his way up to becoming a well-equipped superhero like others, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was well-equipped from the start. However, with Tony passing away and the events ofSpider-Man: No Way Home, in which Peter asks Doctor Strange to cast a spell that would make everyone forget his true identity after Mysterio exposes it, Peter finds himself back at square one. The “Home” trilogy may have concluded, but Peter’s journey continues. He is now disconnected from the Avengers and adopts a more grounded, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man persona.
At the end ofSpider-Man: No Way Home,Peter loses everything, includingAunt May, his friends, Happy, and even his privilege from Stark Tech. Peter is finally shown moving into his own apartment. In a significant moment, Peter creates his own Spider-Man suit at the end of the movie. While the short sequence didn’t clearly show the suit, it appeared to feature a classic blue and red color scheme and is more simplistic compared to his previous costumes and draws inspiration from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. The suit’s eyes are also larger and resemble those ofThe Amazing Spider-Man 2’s suit. The new suit is a blend of both of the previous Spider-Man and in a way pays homage to them after their help in the film. Peter is shown swinging through the city once again as Spider-Man in a short sequence at the end of the movie, and fans hope this suit will be a permanent additionin the next installment.
