When thinking of great skate locations in video games, players may think of School II or Downtown from theTony Hawk’s Pro Skaterseries, or even The University fromSkate 3. Most are unlikely to think of theIsle of Delfino, home toSuper Mario Sunshine, but thanks to the efforts of a dedicated fan,Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2players can see just how much fun riding around Delfino Plaza would likely be.
The recreation of the GameCube classic location was made by YouTuber Gunderstank_16, using the Create a Park in-game editor on the recently releasedTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2for the PlayStation 4. The video shows how they have made full use of the editor tools to include Delfino Plaza landmarks such as the Shine Gate and Boathouse, and even a Mario themed skater costume.

Accompanied by the classic Delfino Plaza music, the map and video certainly provides a strong recreation of the location within the limits of the Create a Park tool. Players of the PlayStation 4 version ofTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2can find the map by searching for “Delfino Plaza” in-game, but unfortunately there is currently no cross-format sharing of user designed levels, so gamers on PC and Xbox One will have to make do with the video for now.
The release of the updatedTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2has proven that there is still life in the skateboarding genre, selling over 1 million copies in the first two weeks after launch on June 22, 2025. The Create a Park feature has already inspired players to recreate classic gaming locations likeHyrule Temple fromSuper Smash Bros.Super Mario Sunshinehas often been seen as the less successful and somewhat disappointing follow up toSuper Mario 64, but videos such as this one prove that it still has plenty of fans among gamers.
Despite the old stereotypes that sometimes crop up, this recreation of Delfino Plaza is another demonstration that gamers as a whole are highly creative people, who find new and inventive ways of utilizing the tools that developers give them.Animal Crossing: New Horizonsin particular has inspired gamersto stretch the boundaries of what can be achieved, using photo mode to make film trailers and provide alternatives to lock down restricted events. Thanks to the Internet it is easier than ever for gamers to see and experience the creativity of the community, even if hardware limitations can sometimes get in the way.
Perhaps more developers should look at how including editing and creation tools can help build a community and drive publicity around new and recent releases. Hopefully, videos such as this one will also prompt gamers togiveSuper Mario Sunshinea second look, and achieve the recognition many feel it deserves.
