Since opening up as a public beta back in 2011,Twitchhas grown to be one of the biggest streaming platforms in the world drawing in millions of viewers every month. As such,Twitch is generally stricttowards some of its policy implementations and is often quick to ban streamers altogether whenever it detects content that is considered offensive or problematic. One of these streamers who have been on the receiving end of Twitch’s ban-hammer is Sanchovies. However, now it appears things have turned around for the streamer.Known for hisLeague of Legendsstreams, Sanchovies has been growing his presence noticeably over the past few years. Recently, the 24-year-old streamer has managed to rack up over 300,000 followers on the platform. But on April 20, Sanchovies was served with his first ban. Although many assumed the ban wouldn’t last long, Sanchovies was out of Twitch for six days before the platform unbanned him, only to ban him again hours later.RELATED:Twitch Bans FedmysterNevertheless, exactly one month after the initial ban Sanchovies is now unbanned again fromTwitch. The streamer had earlier stated that the reason for the ban was because of an outburst where he threatened to bomb his internet service provider at the end of a stream. “What I said was super irresponsible as somebody with a considerably large audience,” the 24-year-old mentioned at the time, “I apologize for that. It was an awful, awful joke to make, and it’ll never happen again.”

High-profile bans are nothing new on Twitch. In fact, they tend to make headlines on a regular basis. For instance, back in April, one of the platform’s biggest streamers,Adin Ross was banned indefinitelyover hate speech. Though the streamer claimed to be unsure of the exact reason. Incidentally, this isn’t the first time big streamers have been banned without stating specific details on the suspension. Dr. Disrespect was banned from Twitch back in 2020 with little to no reason given.

But ambiguous communication over suspending big streamers is only one of the many issues Twitch has been dealing with as of late. Recently, an Istanbul-based cybercrime unitarrested 18 suspects over Twitch money laundering allegations. This scam first came to light back when Twitch’s source code was leaked entirely online last year. Although since the incident, Twitch has been actively looking to tackle the issue, for instance, by banning 150 streamers for abusing its monetization tools. In any case, it’s clear that these are testing times for the Amazon-owned streaming platform and while unbanning streamers like Sanchovies may be a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, it certainly does well to win back the confidence of Twitch’s audience.
