Summary

XDefiantExecutive Producer Mark Rubin has responded to complaints regarding the game’s hit detection problems. The topic is one of the more criticized aspects of the game, butXDefiant’s developers are apparently hard at work on the issue.

Like other high-profile multiplayer launches,XDefiantgot off to a rough startdue to server issues on its May 21 release date, but has quickly rebounded with insiders claiming that over 3 million unique users played the game within its first 48 hours. The throwback-style FPS title seems to already be a success, but the endurance of its popularity will probably be dictated by Ubisoft’s post-launch support. Fortunately, early signs fromXDefiant’s development team seem to give fans a reason to be optimistic about this matter.

On Twitter, Rubin responded to a user who was talking about starting a petition forXDefiant’s hit detection issues by simply saying “You don’t need a petition. It’s something we are working on.” Rubin did not offer any more details, so a release window for the hit registration fix is still unknown.XDefiantalready released its first updatethis morning on May 24, so successive updates may not be far off. However, sweeping hit registration fixes may be a major project for the developers, so again, it’s unclear how long this solution could take.

XDefiant Hit Reg Update Is In The Works

Rubin has been active on Twitter responding to fan’s requests for future patches. This morning, he also confirmed that a fix is coming for double XP timers that makes them only count down during a game, but this apparently won’t arrive until Season 1.XDefiant’s previously mentioned first update did include a fix for a hit registration problem, or what some people thought was a hit reg problem. Now, enemies' health bars should properly reflect the damage done by a user’s bullets, because before, an enemy’s health bar sometimes wouldn’t update properly if the user themselves was about to be eliminated, but this was only a visual issue according to the update’s patch notes.

If Ubisoft’s free-to-play shooter continues to receive regular updates as well as post-launch content, it’s hard to see the game not being a success in its own right, barring some sort of major drama or community split.XDefianthas already earned praisefrom streamers and players alike, who enjoy the game’s slightly retro style compared to modern competitors likeCall of Duty. However, it remains to be seen whetherXDefiantcan even come close to challengingCoD’s throne in terms of long-term player engagement.

XDefiant’s first major update, Season 1, is expected to launch in early July, when Ubisoft will add anotherXDefiantfaction, three maps, three weapons, and more. Regular seasonal updates will follow, according to the developer.
