Summary

Power Couple buffs were an excellent addition toMarvel Snapthis last week in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Power Couples didn’t necessarily make anyone’s deck overpowered by any stretch of the imagination, but they did enhance builds that combined complementary cards.Marvel Snap’s Angela and Serawere quite prolific as a Power Couple, for example, but without their buffs players will undoubtedly return to whatever meta builds they were running beforehand.

It hopefully won’t be too long beforeMarvel Snapdebuts another event such as this one, even if it doesn’t revolve around a particular holiday. It would be neat to see more randomly recurring events related to characters, such as a rogues’ gallery appreciation event that buffs heroes and villains who are mortal rivals. That said, a rogues’ gallery event would inevitably run into the same lore omissions as the Valentine’s Week event suffered from.

The biggest draw ofMarvel Snap’s Valentine’s Week eventwas how it offered a subtle alteration to all the different metas shuffling around the game at the moment. It was fantastic to see new builds amid the ubiquitous destroy or control decks, for instance, and it was a nice incentive for players to maybe experiment with their decks. The same would be terrific for a rogues’ gallery event, and such hero and villain pairings could be:

Part of the fun ofMarvel Snapis that it truly honors and celebrates its characters. This is true regarding the choice of artwork-inspired variants that can often be purchased or earned, and it’s true too of the Valentine’s Week event that depicted couples from the Marvel universe. Now,Marvel Snapdoesn’t require anyone to have been a life-long fan to enjoy or comprehend it, but it’s a cherry on top of an already sumptuous dessert if players know these characters and their connections to one another.

Players may have an idea of who some characters’ antagonists are, but to have a truly comprehensive rogues’ gallery eventMarvel Snapwould have its hands full with a lot of red thread connecting the dots between several different heroes and villains.

Marvel Snap Couldn’t Account for Every Rivalry in Comic Book Lore

However, despite how fun it may be to pair a hero with their arch-nemesis, any singular pairing would misrepresent thelarger Marvel pantheon. Like Valentine’s Week, which paired lovers such as Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman with shared buffs, it would fail to paint a full picture. Mr. Fantastic could pair well with Doctor Doom in a rogues’ gallery event, but so could anyone in the Fantastic Four; otherwise, characters as popular and storied as Spider-Man have a multitude of villains, many of whom are inMarvel Snapand would need to be accounted for.

It would be fun to see a ‘Spider-Man’s Rogues’ Gallery’ build arise from an event like this where the entire deck consisted of Spider-Man and his villains, giving Spider-Man an extraordinary buff with countless Power stacks, butMarvel Snapcouldn’t afford to miss out on any characters’ rivalries if it was going to go that far in the first place. Marvel lore is messy enough as it is with many characters having interacted or fought, so reflecting that in a deck would be incredibly complicated, rather than an interesting niche to punctuate for an event.
