Summary

Destiny 2has had a tough 2023 that started with a rocky release of the Lightfall expansion and continued with Bungie layoffs and a delay of The Final Shape to June 2024, making it hard for some players to retain trust in the company. Bungie needs to win players back if it wantsDestiny 2to continue after The Final Shape is done and dusted, and while that is no easy task, there are many changes players have been vocal about that the studio could try and make. Luckily, today marks a big day forDestiny 2, as Bungie released a new TWID post that contains massive game-changing information about its looter-shooter, possibly turning the tide that started last year.

Destiny 2’s The Final Shaperuns a lot of risks, as it needs to deliver what Lightfall couldn’t and then some, while also making it so players are not simply seeing where the story ends and then dipping after the game’s 10-year saga comes to a close. After all,Destiny 2is a live-service game, and even if its biggest story yet is concluding soon, its episodic model will deliver more stories worth exploring, and today’s TWID does seem like things are looking up soon.

Every Destiny 2 Feature and Change Announced in January 2024

Destiny 2 is Bringing Back Character Customization

One of the most requested features to make a comeback inDestiny 2in recent years has been post-creation character customization, which was first available on launch via Eververse purchase under Activision, and then was removed entirely. For a live-service game that has been around for almost seven years and ten years total counting the original game,Destiny 2’s character customizationis currently only tied to cosmetics. Things are changing soon, however, as Bungie confirmed players will be able to change their characters' appearance completely for free and any time they want just by launching the game.

This is a big win for the community, and it does show Bungie is listening to the players' main concerns. While players don’t have a lot of choices in terms of character appearance, one might want to change their Guardian’s body type, hairstyle, skin color, or even race in the future, as the TWID does state that players won’t be able to change the character’s origin between Human, Awoken, and Exo. Furthermore,Destiny 2’s Synthweave bounty capwill be reset in March, meaning players will be able to obtain more of these tokens to transmog different ornaments, typically maxed out at 10 per season.

It’s unclear when the character customization feature will become available in Destiny 2, but Bungie stated it will be before The Final Shape.

Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost 2024 Armor Sets Revealed

Still in a character customization vein, the TWID also revealed what sort of ornaments will become available in Fall 2024. In fact, Bungie typically holds a voting contest forDestiny 2Festival of the Lost armor setsmonths before their release, and this time the theme is “good wizards vs. evil wizards,” with two different armor sets per class that range from blue and gold tones for the good mages to black and purple for the evil ones. Players will be able to vote once they get the corresponding email, but also via survey shared in the TWID.

Destiny 2 Doubling the Glimmer Cap

Last but not least,Destiny 2’s first 2024 update goes above and beyond by finally addressing the Glimmer cap issues in the game, raising the currency’s hard limit from 250,000 to 500,000. TheGlimmer cap inDestiny 2had already been pointed out as one of the game’s biggest issues years ago, but it’s become more and more evident as time went on, so Bungie finally addressing this is a big win for the community.

Destiny 2’s Glimmer cap is being raised with Update 7.3.4 on January 30.
