Fans have discovered evidence of a newWorld of Warcraft Classicworld event in Season of Discovery Phase 4 called Blackrock Eruptions. Recently,World of Warcraft Classicgave players a first glimpse at Season of Discovery Phase 4. Featuring new Rune engravings, new instanced raid versions ofClassicworld bosses, and possibly even aniconic Legendary weapon fromWorld of Warcrafthistory, Phase 4 of Season of Discovery will take characters to the endgame level cap of 60 in a big way.
However, fans may have discovered a mysterious new feature coming in the nextWoW Classicupdate. For the first time since the servers opened,World of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery has a Public Test Realm dedicated to testing the new Runes and endgame class balance. That said, while exploring Azeroth on these servers, players noticed an event timer near Blackrock Mountain in the Burning Steppes linked to an activity seemingly called a “Blackrock Eruption.” According to screenshots captured by Wowhead, this event appears to be active every other hour, though the event itself is not implemented on the PTR.
Blackrock Eruptions in WoW Classic SoD Phase 4
Little is known about this mysterious event at the moment.World of Warcraftdidn’t mention it during the recent development blog, and whenWoW Classicsenior game producer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield was asked about the discovery, he only said it was “not anything like STV.” Players will likely learn more during the official preview of Phase 4, likely coming in the next couple of weeks.
The world events of Season of Discovery have been exceptionally well-received. The Battle for Ashenvale from Phase 1, the Blood Moon from Phase 2, and theNightmare Incursions fromWoW ClassicSeason of Discovery Phase 3are all still quite popular, with the latter two actually receiving more updates in Phase 4. Considering Aggrend’s assertions about Blackrock Eruptions, it is probably safe to assume the event will likely not be PvP-oriented like the first two, though it may differ greatly from Nightmare Incursions as well.
WithCataclysm Classiclive since May 20, modernWorld of WarcraftdroppingThe War Withinon August 26, and the new expansion’s Pre-Patch likely arriving in July, Blizzard will probably aim for a late June release for Season of Discovery Phase 4 so it doesn’t trip over these other releases. Either way, fans won’t have to wait long to find out an official launch date.
