LoreCraft Designs is a group ofWarcraftfans who took it upon themselves torecreate all ofWarcraft 2within theWarcraft 3engine. Consisting of a team of seven designers and dozens of other contributors, LoreCraft had a Herculean task ahead of them, considering the vast differences betweenWarcraft 2and3, as well as the lore discrepancies that have emerged over the near-three decades the franchise has existed.
Now, LoreCraft’s hard work has finally paid off with the first half of theWarcraft Chronicles of the Second War: Tides of Darknessproject. This freeWarcraft 3: Reforgedmap set includes 17 missions that tell the story of the Horde campaign fromWarcraft 2, but tweaked with modern lore elements fromWorld of Warcraftand background novels. The free campaign includes brand-new cinematics, original voice acting, remastered soundtracks, and new game mechanics, allowing players to reliveWarcraft 2on a more modernized engine. Warcraft 3: Reforged Chronicles of the Second War Features
Though this incredible custom campaign is impressive, it is only the beginning of LoreCraft’s journey to breathe life into the oldWarcraftRTS games. It already has plans to remake the Human campaign fromWarcraft 2as a part of theChronicles of the Second Warproject. Additionally, the designers are concurrently working onChains of Conquest, a mod that retells and expands upon the story ofWarcraft: Orcs and Humans, including therise of the Horde inWarcraftloreand fall of the Draenei, though it is still early in development.
Other fans have been working on similar projects, such asWarcraft 3: Re-Reforged, whichseeks to remake theWarcraft 3campaignwhile following through on Blizzard’s original vision when the remaster was first announced.
