YouTube recently revealed that it is introducing a new Playables section within the platform, adding a long list of games to play for users. As part of this, there is a variety of lightweight games, including a fewnotable mobile game IPs, that are available to play for free on the web, Android, and iOS. Right now, Playables is only available in a limited number of countries with more to follow “over the coming months.” Apparently, this feature is rolling out after being tested by users in select regions over the past few months.

List of Games Available on YouTube Playables

On YouTube, users can access Playables from the Explore menu available on the homepage. From there, they can play games belonging to top franchises, such as thehighly successfulAngry Birdsseries. As mentioned in the announcement, players can also save their in-game progress and check their all-time high scores. Moreover, they can bookmark a game, share it with their friends, or send feedback to YouTube by tapping on the three dots or “More” menu and selecting the respective option.

The Playables section mostly contains basic games with straightforward controls and rules. In addition, there are a few classics, such asLudo King,Angry Birds Showdown, andCut the Rope. While these games have built a strong following over time, they may still not be exciting enough for certain gamers who have grown used to playingconsole-quality games even on mobile. However, players must temper their expectations and keep in mind that these games are only a side attraction in an app that primarily serves a different purpose. In the near future, they may expect to see more noteworthy titles joining the Playables catalog.

Since launching in 2005, YouTube has established itself as a primary source of online entertainment over the years. With videos already drawing significant user engagement for it, the US-based firm’s focus has now seemingly shifted to experimenting with another popular entertainment medium, games. As Playables matures as a feature, it should become clear if people like having access to online games on YouTube.
