Back in 2013, director Zack Snyder hadfloated around the possibility to fansthat he may have aStar WarsMovie in the works. At the time, Snyder was incredibly inspired by Akira Kurosawa’sSeven Samurai. He began collaborating with Lucasfilm and the intention behind the film was for it to be more in the realm of Sci-Fi rather than only tapping into theStar Warsgalaxy. However, there was most definitely connective tissue. Snyder’sStar Warsmovie would have focused much more on a group of Jedi.

The film would have beencompletely separate from the Skywalker narrativeand wouldn’t have featured any of the other characters from the franchise. At this point in time,Star Warshadn’t yet been thrust back into the public consciousness by the Disney Sequel trilogy. Therefore, Snyder saw more of an open door back then to implement his idea. It seems thatSnyder was quite eager to not onlycontribute to the franchise, but he held the firm belief that he could also make it better and stronger. So where did this determination go?

Eight years went by without hearing any news or updates about Snyder’sStar Warsfilm. Consequently, fans considered the nail was in the coffin and maybe even Snyder believed this to be true as well. One of the reasons he was never able tobring the film to fruition was because2013 was a standout year for him when it came to his career. That year Snyder was working diligently on the DC Extended Universe.Man Of Steelhad also been released that summer. Despite the nearly decade of time that has passed since the birth of his idea, Snyder has still held onto his pipe dream.

Snyder appeared onMTV’s podcast,Happy Sad Confusedwhere he re-visited andconfirmed that the film was verymuch a reality at one point. Snyder said, “We talked about it, but it never happened. I’ve been working on it away from theStar Warsuniverse, on my own, as a sci-fi thing…it’s still a sci-fi thing. It’s the same story. Now, I’m just going to letStar WarsbeStar Wars.”

Now that the StarWarsnarrative has been fully explored and fleshed out, Snyder is even more confident in him removing TheStar Warsconnection to the film. Yet, this doesn’t mean that his childhood dream of being a part of one of thebiggest movie franchises to ever existhas completely died.  Snyder is still holding onto faith that it may happen in the future. He stated, “the 11-year-old me still wants to make that, and now, I know how to. So, maybe we’ll see that someday.”
