Frox are bizarre frog-like creatures that Link can find roaming around the Depths, and they come in two different flavors. There are the deadly full-grown frox that look like giant toads, and then the smaller variants that are much easier to deal with. Reddit user michaelisstayinghome was recently looking through theofficialZelda: Tears of the Kingdomart bookand noticed that a frox variant seen in the book didn’t exactly make it into the final game.
Thesmaller frox inZelda: Tears of the Kingdomlook similar to the creature depicted here, but the creature in this concept art appears to be somewhat longer and has crystals growing on its back. It seems that the frox creature went through a slight redesign in the transition from concept art to the full game. So while a version of this exists inThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Depths, players won’t find this exact creature on their adventures.
It’s possible this frox variant could make a comeback as part of someZelda: Tears of the KingdomDLC expansions, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath. Nintendo has not announced any plans forZelda: Tears of the KingdomDLC, but since it released twoZelda: Breath of the WildDLCs, many have assumed that some post-launch content is on the way. A Nintendo Direct is scheduled to air soon, so perhapsZeldafans won’t have to wait much longer to learn more, though they shouldn’t expect this version of the frox to show up.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis available now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
