While exploring the Great Plateau and working on a side quest, aLegend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomplayer dives into the depths, only to have one of their quest items ricochet into them leading to Link’s untimely demise. WhileTears of the Kingdomreuses a lot of the originalBreath of the Wildmap, the game has updated many areas, showcasing the advancement of time as well as the current predicament the region finds itself in.
However,Tears of the Kingdomexpands Hyrule into the skies with new islands to explore as well as adding a massive underground region known as the Depths. Unlike the surface, the Depths can be incredibly dangerous due to gloom blanketing nearly everything and forcing players to discover Lightroots to light up the region from darkness. Players also need to essentially dive throughspecific holes in Hyrule to get to the Depthswith one player finding out how dangerous this process can be.

Over on the Tears of the Kingdom subReddit, a user named LokiTheZorua created a thread and called it the best death they’ve had so far, which quickly becomes apparent after watching the short clip. While exploring The Great Plateau, LokiTheZorua is in the middle ofworking through A Call from the Depths Side Adventure. After locating one of the eyes needed for the Bargainer Statue, they toss it into the Great Plateau East Chasm before diving in to chase after it.
Unfortunately, Link falls faster than the stone eye and as it begins ricocheting around, it flings into the falling Link, smashing him into the side wall where Gloom is waiting. As many in the comments could see coming, Link is nearly instantly killed while continuing to fall. Naturally, manyTears of the KingdomsubReddit users couldn’t help themselves to make pun jokes, while others tried to make sense of what happened. After some debate, many assumed it was a combination of the fall and collision that combined to take all of Link’s hearts rather than the gloom doing the work.
Since its launch in May, players have been pushing and experimenting with all of the systems at work in Tears of the Kingdom. Fostering a sense of creativity, players have been sharing all sorts of unique inventions and gameplay moments including a recent discovery thatZelda players can actually steer vehicles without a specific Zonai Steering Stickdevice. With a massive world to explore and abiltities like Ultrahand available, its clear players will be sharing new discoveries and content for quite a while.
